2000 Classic turned into Nomad
Guys-
I seem to recall, or maybe my memory is just playing tricks on me, a post about a guy that took a 2000cc Classic LT and made it into something similar to a Nomad- adding the Nomad bags, etc. It seemed to me he even widened the original bags. I think the guy lived overseas, too. Maybe I am getting this mixed up with the guy that has that baby-blue/white Nomad and trailer... Anyone recall a project like this? Thanks. |

I have seen it done a couple of times. Here's a link showing how it's done. http://vn2000.com/pages/nomad-bags.htm

You remember correctly. I´m pretty sure it´s Rolf´s V2k you
have in mind. ;) And yes, he has widened the bags. http://www.rolfshemsida.se/blandade%...er/ready13.jpg |

Thanks- I do believe that's the one I'm thinking about. So is Rolf an actual member of KawaNOW, or was his bike just 'featured' on KawaNOW? I couldn't find his name in the member list. Do you remember anything about the story on how the transformation took place? It looks like he even widened the saddlebag rails on top, and probably had special rails built to go around the bottom of the bags, too. It looks like a fair amount of custom fabrication was done. Would sure like to see more pictures of how he did it. I wonder if it would be possible to get in touch with him? |

Gotta love the ingenuity, time and effort from some of these guys. Between the bike and trailer what an enormous of engineering resulting in an excellent finished product. Neat to see. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Very cool! I think if Kawi would make a 2K nomad, it would dominate the metric market.

Nice job and congrats to Rolf !! Rolf should mock up a pair of lowers for the Nomad and start production immediately.

I build myself a V2K Nomad.
I bought in april 2008 a brand new VN 2000 Classic and turn it on to a Nomad. Put on the original windscreen and the bags of a 1500 Nomad It's crazy the pulling power of this machine! What a torque! http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...n/IMG_2623.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...n/IMG_2624.jpg Greetings from a cold and windy Netherlands Nomadman |

Nomadman, Do you have brackets supporting the Nomad bags or are they just bolted on?

I ordered the original brackets from the VN 2000 Classic LT and modify them for using with the hardbags.
After dinner a shall try to take a few pictures from the bags and the mounting brackets and will post it on this board. Greetz Jan |

Both guys did a nice job mounting the bags. I rode a 2000cc Vulcan a couple years ago and loved the pull that it had, not that Im complaining about my Nomad but its the slowest bike Ive had since the mid 70's in terms of acceleration. Some days it would be nice to be able to twist the throttle and have the bike pin you back in the seat.

Guy's a few pics of my bags and the mounting hardware I used.
Many hours of measuring and tryings to get this result. For some ridgidity in the back of the bags, I've mounted a couple of stainless sheet metal on the in-and outside. The OEM bags are very expensive, I was lucky, one bag I found at my dealers attic, the other on Ebay. Both of the bags are damaged but repairable. A friend did the recovery work and repainting. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...n/IMG_3490.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...n/IMG_3491.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...n/IMG_3497.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...n/IMG_3500.jpg Greetings Jan |
