What are the + and -'s of using a sheep skin, if your not the sheep of course?
Thanks for your time

You might try this link. There are several online. Just type in sheepskin seat covers for mototcycles and it will bring up several.

I have a long haired, really thick, black, sheepskin on Ruby and Brian's is a brownish colour and not quite as thick as mine. We both think there is a definite improvement in seat comfort. It softens the seat so much, and makes long rides much more comfortable.

Downside - when I wash the Nomads, I have to remove the sheepskins, which isn't a big deal since they are attached with Velcro and I imagine if we get caught in a downpour it will get wet if not removed.

CC, Where did you find those? Are they local?

+1 alaskaleather.

I had a natural white sheepskin for several years but the white attracted dirt like a magnet and the skin got hard when wet.

I got black from alaskaleather and it comes with a coating on the underside and attachments so it stays in place but is easy to remove.

Leadbelly I got the black from the company in the states I get my leather from and Brian got his as a door prize at the Custer rally. Check with Chris McVean, Sage Brush Designs in Calgary, last I heard he was selling black.

Any suggestions on the color. Will the black get hot when left in the sun or does it stay cool. I'm asking because my wife has issues with the hot seat after being parked and I wanted to get a black sheepskin for her but she feels that will not help as the black will still get hot. I just can't bring myself to put a white sheepskin on the bike.
Thanks,

Thanks,

Definitely not as hot as black vinyl. For what you want it to do, I'd still get black sheep's skin.

The wool doesn't transfer the heat well, the vinyl does transfer the heat well. Think picking up a black shirt that has been in the sun vs a black chunk of steel.

I bought a black one from Costco 2 years ago for $19. it was large enough that I was able to cut it in two and give half to a friend for his bike. It doesn't have any straps to mount it, but I only use it for long trips and simply sewed a couple of pieces of an elastic material and a hook.

I sewed an Airhawk on the back side.

I have a black lambskin that was made for my seat. It attaches with Velcro under the seat. I was afraid the black would attract heat, but the old biker who made it for me assured me that would not be the case.

He was right. It does not get hot sitting in the sun, and in Phoenix in the spring and summer you all know just how toasty things can get in the sun. It is comfortable and actually keeps the bottoms of my thighs cool when riding.

The cut drapes down slightly below the seat, so it channels the hot air from the engine away from my legs on a ride. The old biker really knew what he was doing when he fabricated it.

I think he got it from Alaska leather. We have had it on now since last August, and would not ride with out it.
