speedometer operation - 2001 Nomad

Okay, I'm not home so don't have my manual. A friend and I are discussing our bikes and I have a question re my Nomad.

Where/how does the speedo get its' info? If an oversized rear tire is installed, will that affect the speedo operation?

Thanks

L model, FI, should have put that in I guess. I know it's not cable drive. Thanks for the answer. BTW, how did my Dobeck come into this?

It is my understanding that a larger tire will result in a lower reading on the speedometer thereby correcting some of the inaccuracy. My bike is 6% optimistic at 100 kmph. The actual speed verified by my GPS is 94 kmph. (1300 Yamaha V Star).

I knew you had a Dobeck, ergo, I knew your bike was fuel injected.
