Back fire

I have a 2007 Kawasaki Nomad with 7200 miles on it. Every once in a while the bike almost sounds like it back fires when it starts. This usually happens the first start. It seems to be fine after that. Does anyone have any ideas on what might cause this? Why does the bike have a choke when it is fuel injected? The weather is warm out and would not think a choke would be needed. As always thanks for everyones help.

tmgadget ....sorry, can't help you with the backfire question. Someone will chime in with some info for you on that. As far as the choke question, its not a choke at all. Its purpose is to give you a fast idle on startup with it pulled.

Back fire

I have a 06 and Mine does it sometimes. I do not use the choke which is actually a fast idle. Our bikes are Fuel injected. Mine dosn't do it when you pull the fast idle out to start the engine. I also start mine in the winter with snow on the ground without pulling the fast idle out. I think its the engine just trying to get enough fuel to start. I also dosn't seem to do it after the engine is warmed up.
