Record Coldest/Hottest Days For Each State

Was watching the local news tonight and the weather guy showed an interesting fact. On this date in 1966 the record was set for the coldest day in Alabama. The temperature was -27 degrees at New Market, AL. I was like 20 years old and don't remember it. Sure hope we don't have any days like that anytime this winter or the near future.

You peaked my interest in the coldest day. Here in Vermont it was Dec. 30, 1933. With the temp. of -50* recorded in Bloomfield, Vt.
My mother was born in 1925, and always had stories of deep snow and cold temps. I hope she got to go to the wood stove between feeding and milking. But the stories she told were of no heat or food. But her parents had tobacco and alcohol.

That link is really neat. I can't believe some of the record lows. I can't imagine being out with some of the low temperatures.

Interesting. Statistics are a fun thing to play with. 74% of the warmest high Temps. occurred before 1950. 48% of the coldest temps. occurred after 1950. Kind of looks like it's been getting cooler.

Of course a prudent person would look at weather in 500-1000 year increments before making such rash statements. :)

Around here we don't get the cold or the snow like we used to on average. Years ago it was common to hit -40 for a day or two in the winter, and -20 was fairly common a few times a winter.

Interesting Stan I didn't notice when the hottest and coldest time frame occured. Maybe we aren't having global warming after all.
