Hitch

I have been researching and shopping for used hitches, and came across this one on Craigslist.

http://appleton.craigslist.org/mcy/1959295256.html

Does anyone have a hitch like this? I would like to know if this is a decent hitch or not.

Thanks.

It might be nice if you want someone to think you tow a trailer, but that thing just doesn't look strong enough to me, and I use to build Nomad hitches!

Looks this one.
Perhaps that will open up some more research opportunities.

Buy one from Joe (Chuckster) and you will know you have a good hitch.

It wouldn't be inconspicuous, that's for sure. I also don't think it will fit a 1600.

That one is for the 1500 and the 1600 is different. Check the one's I have, you won't go wrong with one of mine.

+1. ordered mine a while back and just got it mounted. Installed without a hitch and you have to look for it to know it is there.

I agree, I have one from Chuckster, have used it a fair bit and all I can say is get one from him. The fit & finish are spot on and you really have to look for it if the ball isn't mounted.

That hitch on the Craigslist ad looks like its made of at least 3/16" steel plate, and mounts to the bag supports. It should do the job unless youpull a really heavy trailer/.

I have a 1500, not a 1600. So (I assume) there is a difference in mounting?

I would love to buy one from Joe (along with a light kit), just cause I would rather buy from KawaNOW members when I can.

I would also like to keep my lower bag rails, if possible. Don't know if that would be possible.

Right now, I am researching my options, and can't afford to buy a brand new one. That is why I am keeping an eye out for a good used one.

Doug,
I was saying that it will fit your bike, and you can keep the lower rails too. I have a way to keep the lower rails with my hitches as well.
I don't know the strength of that particular hitch, but I'm sure it is a good one too.

Keep me in mind for a light kit when you are ready for one.

Cheers

Doug, That looks like the Hitch Doctor I have. I also got mine used, it mounted easily and you cna still have the lower bag rails. Mine can not be seen with out the ball inserted. I have a home made box trailer, weighing about 100#. Chuckster hitches are also great (everything he does is top notch.) http://hitchdoc.com/ Yes it is mounted in the pictures and is very solid.

Joe, I am definitely keeping you in mind for the light kit. From you site, it looked like the kit only fits the 2005 and newer 1600s. But you are saying it will fit my 1500 as well? That is great!

Doug,
I have talked with MAS Tequila and he had one of my brackets to try out on the 1500, and he says it fits perfect. He will be adding one of these kits very soon so we will have pics and also the website changed.

It looks like it mounts up under the fender so when the stinger is off you'll never know it's on there. pretty slick.
