?1500 gas tank?
Can someone tell me what year the 1500 Nomad got the larger gas tank? Was it with the fuel injected models only? Can a larger tank be fitted to the older smaller tanked bikes?

2002 was the first year of the 5 gallon tank. I don't know if you can retro fit a 5 to the older bikes. I know there is an aftermarket 6 gallon that a company makes, cost was about $800 I think.

...Very close Coach. Actually, about 1/2 way through year 2000 they switched to FI and the larger tank. :) As far as switching the tanks, don't think it would be easy. Carbed models have the speedo cable driven and it comes up under the front of the tank. The FI models don't and the configuration at the front of the tank is completeely different. Nothing is impossible but this switch would be tough. :)

If your trying to put a FI tank on a carbed bike it would be more difficult. If its from an FI to another FI I assume it could be done, but Im not sure. It depends on what they did to add the extra capacity. If they just widened the tank it shouldn't be to bad to switch, but if its been lengthened it changes a bunch of stuff.

Not all injected bikes have large tanks
I have a 2000 FI but the smaller tank. Not sure when they went to the larger tank but the small one was used on injected bikes. |

I think it was in 2002 when they went to the larger tank, but Im not absolutely sure. Between 2000 & 2002 Kawi flip flopped between FI and carbs and I think in one of those years they had both available during the production run.

My 2001 has the 5 gallon tank, but a friend of mine 2000 FI has the 4.3 like the one for the carbed bike.
I don't know if you could fit the larger tank, with out some revamping of the mounting area's. You would most likely have to do some modifications to make one fit.
