engine knock
Quote:
Just my two cents worth: Engine knock is FUEL DETONATION. The kid touched on it how fuel burns in a normal engine cycle. That flame front when burning is a homogeneous burn, meaning it burns slowly with control, across the cylinder from the spark plug. Engine knock is the fuel exploding like fireworks exploding. The fuel can start the burn process before the spark plug ignites due to cylinder temperatures or hot carbon deposits to name two ways. If the timing is to advanced for the engine speed and load, it starts the burn to soon because the piston is in the wrong position on the compression stroke. Just think of it as lighting a barbeque with the gas you put on the briquets and it goes whoosh, that's a controlled homogeneous burn. Engine knock or fuel detonation is Daffy Duck standing there with his beak blown off.

He says it requires premium. 90 and up is premium.
http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/vn1700.htm I am not seeing much diff between 91 and 93 in all honesty. I just simply see some pinging with some fill ups and 91 vs 93 isn't the diff. I get it sometimes on 93, and some times on 91. I drove all over Colorado which only has 91 and had zero pinging. I jut think it is right on the edge and sometimes it happens. I got 10K on my flash. The pinging is a very minor issue, it is rare and it is very mild. |

I love the flash. Only thing I hoped for was better cooling but it's no different than before the flash. 93 octane is easy to get down here. For you that have a problem getting it, can you use an octane booster in your tank??
