Powder coating questions
Guys,
Starting to plan out my approach for my 2018 Vaquero and I definitely want to powder coat some parts. Stock Handlebars Front turn signal bar/light housings Rear turn signal housings Gas Cap KQR components I think Im gonna run with the Chrome exhaust and Rocker covers for now. Questions: 1) I assume the turn signals are plastic and cant be powder coated so I assume those will have to be painted? 2) What is the going rate for powder coating? 3) Concerned about clearance issues especially with the KQR stuff after its all been coated. Has anyone done this? 4) On Handlebars do I need to leave the portion thats clamped to riders uncoated? Any advice anyone whose been down this path has is appreciated. Live in Central Florida. If anyone knows of a reputable coater lemme know. Sincerely, Craig

I do not *KNOW*, but here are a couple "guesses". 1: Yes, agreed. 2: No idea. 3: Luggage Rack and backrest? Of just backrest? Never has the luggage rack. There was some clearance on the back rest mounts - should be good. 4: The clamps will still grab the bar even after coating. Ride safe, Smokier

For plastic parts that won't powder coat look into hydro dipping. Also known as water transfer printing.

I'm a powder coater and motorcycle builder/mechanic by trade. We have hole plugs and stud covers and tape for masking things that shouldn't be coated. As a bike builder myself, I also know which parts need clearance and where, so I'd talk to your coater ahead of time and discuss these concerns or else plan on spending some quality time with a Dremel afterward.

I must do this brackets 3/8 in to mount foot pegs, shifter and brake powder coated. worked well looked good. Till about a year, the sharp edge came off. I showed them its something you need to know before hand . Now your Aware .....
