Yes of course Roadie...problem is, they can't due individual cylinder tuning due to the 2-1-2 exhaust set up....but I will definitely share the map!

A good tank of gas

Yesterday's ride back from Melbourne, a mix of hi-way ( 75-85 mph ) and secondary roads ( 60-75 mph ). By calculation the 4.703 gallons i pumped in equates to an actual 42.12 mpg.

gonna take my bike to the dyno this week. seems every since it has flipped 3500mi. the performance has really fallen off. the popping on decel has returned and my gas mileage is in the gutter. so we will see if the dyno map will help.

Just getting started.

Hey guys. I've been reading al your extensive posts about mods and performance and i am trying to follow along. I don't have a ton of cash so i have to start slow so if you wouldn't mind chiming in on my thougths i'd appreciate it.
I have about 6600 miles on my Vaq since i bought it in summer. The Canada trip did most of that. Here's what i was thinking of doing:

1. V and H slip ons.....I like the noise.
2. K and N filter.
3. Airbox. I like the stock box. I was wondering if I could just cut some pannels in it and/or put some wire mesh for more air flow?

Questions:
1. What will all this do for me?
2. If i just do pipes is that bad?
3. Do i need to mess with the left side airbox? Never had that before.........

Forgive my ignorance. I do not fear working on the bike but don't have a ton of knowledge....Sounds dangerous no?

Questions:
1.It will give you more power, and smoother performance if you add a Power commander V and mufflers and air kit (with appropriate map or dyno tune)
2. just changing pipes isn't terrible, but you will notice lower performance, with fuel mileage, as well as power
3. no need to mess with the left airbox, you can even get a kit from Thunder that lets you keep both boxes, and gives you the performance of an air kit.

I posted some pics of a 205/60 16 car tire mounted and currently in use on a vaquero...does it look like the tire will rub?

I know how you feel about trying to do mods without a lot of cash to throw into it. I don't know much about the 1700's, but on the 1600's, you can add exhaust without having to add a fuel processor. If you change the air intake at all (adding more air to the engine), then you will have to add a fuel processor to the bike. The Power Commander is expensive, and in my opinion, a bit overkill for our Vulcans. You can look into the Doebeck TFI's and see if there is one that is available for the 1700's. I think there may be one. The TFI runs about $175-$185 from several different places. It is easy to install and set up, and you don't need a computer to program it.

Get creative with your airbox. Maybe you can come up with a mod to it and have your own design. If you post it here, others may follow. I'm not sure if there are many options for the 1700's yet. I have a 1600, so all of this may be invalid for you. You shouldn't see a change in mileage if you just change out the pipes. A K&N air filter won't give you any performance increases either, it just basically allows you to buy 1 filter and reuse it over time.

Hope this helps.
