If it has LM after the name it stands for Lifetime Maps. I just looked online and Walmart has the Garmin
nuvi 50 LM for $79 as a refurbished part. The Garmin Nuvi 50 is $100 brand new. For $50 with lifetime maps, I would buy it. Probably won't be in stock for long. The people I know treat the $50-$70 GPS's as disposable and usually get 2-3 years out of them. From what I have heard the more expensive ones ($600+) are more shock resistant and hold up better from bike vibration. Not the same problem inside a car. With technology as it is the $50 seems the best buy for most users. If $50 falls off my bike or whatever it is much better than $500.

As you probably know Smart phones possess the same abilities. I used to use my friends Iphone in my Vaquero. Can't beat turn by turn directions thru your speakers. It even muted the music. He finally got jealous of me having all the fun and hooked up bluetooth to hear the directions and use his own phone. On a side note his brother spent a grand a couple years ago and had the Garmin installed on his Ultra Classic. It was sweet and he smiled every time it spoke. A year later I pulled up on my Vaquero and he heard the Iphone give me directions, and he wasn't smiling anymore.

That is kind of the way I was looking at these
I think they will do what I want and for $50 If I end up wanting something better I wont be out much
I am leaning toward a waterproof one though.

Looks like waterproof start at $400+. It just dawned on me that you just got a new Vaquero. The Vaquero is set-up to accept the Garmin Zumo 660 and 665. They will play thru the speakers, are Bluetooth, and you can load music in them, are touchscreen, and the 665 has built in XM Radio(you pay for subscription). They are $600+, but have all the things available. Just go and look on Garmin's site. You can do a side by side comparison. Garmin makes the GPS for HD.

They are WAY out of my price range. And I cant hear well enough anymore to use most of the features. I do like to listen to classic Rock because I know the songs and my brain will fill in what I can't actually hear anymore. So I'm leaning toward just a good standard GPS and if it starts raining I will just stow it..
I am going to get one of the headset adaptor cables so I can plug some special headphones in that send a signal to my hearing aids It doesn't
work to bad,,

Yep, like I said the $50 one is a deal if you just need to find a road or find out where you are. If it was here I would buy it.

I have a tomtom One that I have used on my bikes for years, and over 100K miles, love that unit, and use a case I got from ebay ($19) that holds the unit and is waterproof. I do not know about the 1500 but at Amazon the tomtom 1500 only gets 3 stars (out of 16 reviews) but the nuvi 50 got 4 stars (out of 4312 reviews), So I would go with the Garmin. Get the holder/cover (it fits on your bars) from ebay and you will be all set.

Personally, I don't see the need for a GPS. I'd rather use a good old fashioned map. Sometimes I just like to throw in an extra can of gas and see where the road comes out, that's half the fun....

A friend of mine just buys the Garmin refurbished units and uses a Ram mount. Every 2-3 years he just buys another one and moves on. I bought my wife a new one and took her old one bought a $35.00 Ram mount and put it on my bike. I'll either cover it or take it off if rain is coming my way.

In any gps discussion, there's always the "paper map luddites" that pipe up. Sure, a paper map is still useful, but it can't tell you where the nearest Chevron station or place to eat is. A gps is so much more than an electronic map.
