Which windshield? - Page 2

I have done this a couple of times using my band saw with a fine tooth saw blade.

I've got a tall vented windshield from clearview, I like it a lot. Only thing I'd do different is maybe get the medium size instead of large. I'm 6', and with the large, the top of the shield is right at my line of sight, so I can either sit taller and look over, or slouch down and look through it. I'm used to it by now, but still a great windshield. mine is also a '12 vaq.

What seat do you have?? A mustang will put you about right, I think If you have stock or Corbin your to low for the view you want. I had the stock, Corbin and the mustang. Plus for a short time the RDM.
At 5,10 ( on a good day) My medium shield is perfect with the lower position of the Corbin.

Does your vent Rattle like Mine???

Don't get me wrong I love My Clearview shield And anything over small REALLY needs the Vent. IMHO.

My vent rattles Mike, but only when it's closed, and I about never have it closed.

Mine will rattle open & closed but only at certain RPMs. I think the difference is the Vaquero Clutch. It has more vibration than the Voyager clutch.

Wish I remembered this and looked into changing it when I had my transmission rebuilt.

yes, I also have the mustang seat. Got it solely for the wife as I don't think kawasaki has passenger comfort in mind in these models. I was fine with the OEM seat, and the mustang seat makes me sit maybe 1/4" inch taller. as for the windshield, my vent doeas not rattle at all. I'm a little concerned that yours does. But yes, the vent makes a huge difference. without it, I'd have zero air coming through and on those hot days....

I've cut a number of windshields with no issues. I determine the height, then apply heavy masking tape or duct tape on both sides of the cut, and use a Sharpie to mark the line. I use a long hack saw blade that I can grab with both hands and do the cut. Or use a Dremel with a circular blade and take my time to cut it. I would not use a jig-saw, too easy to over power it and loose the line.

After the cut I shape/sand the cut edge to get it rounded and mostly smoothed. Then use finer grades to sand the final edge shape to burnish. Burnishing the edge with a rough cloth or a burnishing wheel on my Dremel gets the polished clear factory edge look. If I use a rough cloth it has to be long enough for me to hold with both hands and vigorously "saw" it back and forth over the sanded edge to create a bit of heat on the edge. Some burnish the edge with a very tiny flame butane torch.

I cannot ride behind a windshield I have to look through. Its only ok if the windshield is brand new and clean. In no time it gets dirty, and eventually somewhat scuffed from cleaning. Then riding into the sun makes vision difficult at best. Clear vision is the most critical aspect of riding, and any form of windshield you have to look through greatly diminishes your visual capability.

Appropriate windshield should be according to your maximum height and your comfort zone should be concern too.

Find a screen that levels at about your nose for the perfect height on touring and cruising bikes. Motorcycle riding can be enjoyed in some ways but not always. Windshields can help reduce back pain, FATIGUE, strain on the arms, dehydration, and muscle cramps by directing wind away from your face and chest. You can enjoy a more comfortable ride with less air pressure blowing against your body.
