What does Ma Kaw need to do to keep us?

To me, thye could easily make the vulcan ( vaquero, nomad, and voyager) modular. Then let the buyer build his bike.

By that i mean, make the tour pack detachable. Have backrest, paassnger seat and luggage rack avaialble to snap into place. Allow buyer to order voyager without fairing and just windshileld. That way they could ( i believe ) reduce factory costs and let the consumer mix and match their bike(s) of choice.

I'm with TC. I don't need a fairing, stereo etc and the trunk was the bosses idea. No it was a demand ;)
I'd probably buy another low mileage 1600 and move my stuff over.
I just think that lots of people do want extras and Kawa doesn't do anything for them.
The nomad has enough power and goes fast enough for me.
And I think it's looks can't be beat.

When I picked up the 06 Nomad - Kawi ddin't have a Touring bike with stuff - so you had to make one! Their 1200cc Inline 4 Voyager was a proper touring bike with all the gizzmo's you could want and got way better fuel mileage and way more power than the new Voyager. The 06 does what it needs to do - however is lacking in power and gas mileage! I borrowed a buddies V2K and that thing had gobs of power and on the trip I took didn't suck fuel - in fact it was way better than the Nomad! So, if they can make a motor that has lot's of horses and doesn't suck fuel ( unless you were hard on the throttle!) why do they continue to roll out gutless gas guzzler's? And in all fairness Yamaha makes the new style Venture and it sucks fuel and is fairly gutless compared to the originals!
Probably will got to a Victory Cross Country Tourer next - that is if I ever can say up enough scratch!!!

Many of you want to see a fairing and ABS added to the Nomad. What happened to the Voyager? It is a Nomad with ABS and a fairing and tourpak.

If the factory gave Nomads the fuel it needs to just run, like just idle, the fuel economy would be in the mid 40's. No one is getting any favors with the stock un-adjustable ecu. I had my 06 ar 46/48 MPG's a while, and with a mc rear tire could get there again easy.

I don't need any faster personally, and don't run the power there is very much.

The one bug I really don't like is the water pump drive line. I think that design sucks.

The next thing is the stinking 1600 battery box. Only a fool could have drawn that one up.

The forks and swingarm just are a hassel, but that swingarm could have been built adjustable, so it could be set at 0.002 slop.

A lot of stuff is made like this these days, as if they forgot basic engineering, and for all I know they have.

I hope I never live to see the day I own a vehical with ABS brakes. Man when I wanna stop i wanna stop, and don't care if the brakes are locked up. Stopping 2 feet past the distance I need to be stopped isn't going to work very well for me.

IMO ABS brakes suck, and on any vehicals I have ever needed to stop that has that BS.

What does Ma Kaw need to do to keep us?

The new Nomad isn't exactly what a lot of the 1500 / 1600 Nomad people were expecting I think. When I was at Sturgis and they asked what I thought about the Voyager and the Vaquero I stated that I liked the Vaquero better than the Voyager but it was not really a 2 up Tourer. The Kawi representative at the booth told me that a lot of the 1500 / 1600 Nomad guys didn't like the new 1700"s that much? He didn't elaboratewhy when my wife asked him why?
He did state that there was quite a bit of positive feedback from riders of other brands just not the 1500 / 1600 guys. So, other than that I cannot comment on.

What does Ma Kaw need to do to keep us?

I like the Voyager coming over from a 1500 classic. I think the lack of power has to do with emission regs more than anything.

Changes: Tour trunk that can be adjusted front and back to accommodate larger or smaller passengers.
Better placement of the horn button.
Better placement of Cruise control buttons.
It would be nice if I didn't need the owners manual to figure out the dashboard controls, not very intuitive.

What does Ma Kaw need to do to keep us?

I changed from my 06 when I hit 50,000 miles. At 36,000 on the new ride, so thinking about it again. I wanted the new nomad, but wanted ABS, a little more zip, better mpgs, and to lose the head buffeting. At the time the Voyager was new and getting poor reviews because of heat. Clearly, though, it does not have much if any longer tank range than the Nomad. SO to get me back, which I'd love because I really like the style of the Nomad, Kawasaki needs to address those issues.

As mentioned already... Kawa needs to make their tourers modular.

They need a fit-shop like HD has.

Whenever anyone tells me they didn't like the fit of any HD bike; I ask them if the dealer discussed their fit-shop. They can change-out any of their models to fit people with different sizes and shapes.

Handle-bars, seats, backrests, foot-pegs, foot-boards, forward controls, and more. The list goes on and on with what can be changed on any HD model to fit most anyone.

Also they need to include the options of adding trunks, saddle-bags, passenger seats and backrests, and luggage racks.

Kawa could start with a few frame platforms and allow customers to add or delete what they want. They could provide fit-shop equipment for a reasonable price to dealers so they could use them with prospective customers... then they could order the parts instead of having to hold them in inventory. (Most HD dealers will carry all the accessories for their fit-shops; but I realize Kawa dealers are not the same. That would help solve that problem.)

I like that "Modular" idea. . . I would totally bolt up Nomad gear to a V2k. :-)

Also I resent that any manufacturer tell me I have to pay for the more expensive faring with the audio gear so that I can rip it out & then pay more AGAIN for the "Accessory" windshield that I wanted in the first place.

I will admit, the horn button does seem to be in a not-so-handy location. I'm not sure if could hit it without first thinking about where it is . . . :-/
