Grasshopper backrest. I love it. The three-minute install was great, and the ability to just pop it off and on when wanted is very handy. Highly recommend.

Motorcycle Seat Backrest for Driver

I have the Kaw F&S backrest that is not supposed to fit on the 1600 Nomad on my 07 1600 Nomad. It took about 15 minutes to make a couple holes and trim the front rubber feet on the rear seat so that it would go on the 1600. It's adjustable front to back and lean angle. I actually changed the pivot mount point on mine which lowered the pad about a inch also.
It works great and a added advantage is that the pad and it's up right mounting bar is removable (takes 10 seconds) while the lower ring bar and under seat fender mount stays put. With the up right mounting bar removed the ring bar makes a great attach point for my large luggage that goes on the passenger seat and has it's own backrest pad. And I can still use the luggage rack for tent and small bag.
It's in the pic.

Motorcycle Seat Backrest for Driver

I have a Grasshopper for my stock seats (the Grasshopper is not adjustable) and just recently bought a Corbin seat with an adjustable drivers' backrest from a member here. The Grasshopper (or pretty much any backrest) is a great addition for comfort, however the Corbin backrest isn't as "thick" as the Grasshopper, allowing the passenger more "wiggle" room.

I have a mustang seat and made the mistake of not getting the backrest and do not have an option now. I have emailed Grasshopper a couple of times. He say it is in the works but nadda as of yet. (hint, hint)

I have a Corbin 2-up touring seat, the Driver backrest is NOT adjustable, so now I ride with a Fire & Steel style (not shown on my signature photo), but I also fab. a solo bracket, where I can take out my Fire & Steel Pad and mount it to my solo bracket ( 1bolt ). I like the adjustability of the Fire & Steel and that it swings down for the passenger.

Russell Day Long seat with the Russell backrest. Never thought I would need a backrest but now probably couldn't do without it.

I use a BAKUP brand backrest, it's pricy, but like the Utopia, fully adjustable. However, I think the Utopia model requires you to cut the passanger seat, where the BAKUP does not. For the money, the Grasshopper is a very nice piece, but it was not available when I got mine. One thing to remember is that aftermarket seats will not allow for the use of other vendors backrest, so if you go with a Mustang, or say.. a Corbin, you have to use their backrest. My BAKUP is so good that I passed on buying a Mustang seat for that reason, and had my stock seat reworked at a local upholstery shop using memory foam and reshaping the cut. Just a few thoughts to ponder before you sink money into a backrest.
