Do you have some photos of your seat?
I guess it really doesn't matter what it looks like I have never read a bad review on the comfort of a Russel seat. I hate to screwup the looks of the stock seat, but if it means being able to ride as far as i want , then I will

I have been thinking of doing my checkerboard pattern using a vinyl option instead of trying to have it painted. I have a guy down the road that has done some stellar graphics on my remote controlled airplanes, and has done a lot of the auto-body wraps. He has color printing capability and such, but this would give me a way to back out if I grew tired of it or decided its not really what I want. Has anyone else done this before? Any thoughts?
Dave

I am not really a big fan of wraps. If you stay back from them they don't look bad though
No worse than the sticker that's already on it anyway. You can do some pretty wild stuff with vinyl.

I have not done full wraps but much vinyl and more recently some digital printing. Printing is awesome for so many uses like this. Some things to keep in mind are; 1) if at all possible get your print laminated before you cut it out and apply it. That will significantly improve it's color density and durability. 2) Most printers have high and low resolution settings to speed up those less important jobs. It's the buyer's responsibility to specify you want the highest resolution output available - it's hugely evident up close. 3) Also specify the best substrate the jobber has. Special printing vinyls for vehicle application are evolving all the time. Ask for one that has contour conforming and air-release properties. Some are so stretchy they could wrap a basketball, others work better for large flat surfaces like sides of busses. Still others are designed to be removed after very few months but that's probably not important for a bike. 4) you might want to make dry paper templates first, cutting to shape and taping in place (especially around curves and corners) to ensure the print will lay where you need it. Better to have your pieces cut to shape first rather than trying to trim after it's stuck down.

I have actually, and they aren't bad
But russell is the only seat that really will work for me on long rides A member sent me some photos of his seat. It definitely doesn't do anything for the looks, But I can't handle another 900+ mile day on just any seat So,,

Thanks for the thoughts on the wraps. I am sure paint is better, just thinking out loud....I need to talk to him and see what the options are and ask all the questions above.
THANKS!

Corbin Seat
Quote:
I live close to a Corbin manufacture and rode over one saturday. They took the factory seat off and made a seat like I ask for. Before they covered it they asked me and my wife to go for a test ride. When we returned my wife was extremely happy, but I had them widen the front some more. No problem. They formed the seat and pored in some more liquid foam. Waited a short period of time, then reshaped it with a air sander. I also had them create a bucket in the seat to support my lower back. They moved the back rest post pocket forward. We picked out the cover material and stitch pattern. All for one price. The modifications were not extra. At the time after the seat is done and you have ridden it for a while, they would do one alteration at no cost if the cover is not changed. They say you need to ride the seat a certain number of tank fill-ups to break in the seat. This seat is very comfortable for me and my wife. Later I went back and had them make back rests for us. Still Happy. Remove your seat and look for the mounting bracket that holds the back of the seat to the bike. Take your fingers and push down on the passenger part of the seat over the top of the mounting area. You will feel two areas where the bolts come up into the foam. I didn't notice this but my wife sure did. She was almost in tears when we returned from a ride. FIX it or I don't ride. The Corbin seat fixed this and raised her up a little also. She is happy. We went on a 2 week vac. 2600 miles later we are still both happy with the seat.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you're going to do to this bike!
