Hey guy's thanks for all the "opinions" they are invaluable. I'm not intimidated with the idea of doing the debaffle I just don't want to f-up my beautiful machine. I think I'll do it today. Again thanks alot for the insights.

You bet!! The only thing I can add to it is you'll need a slide hammer with washers on the end to snatch those ugly ba----ds mufflers out.

I agree that it is intimidating to cut/drill/rip into your pride and joy. Unless you have a really steady hand and a sharp eye, use the dowel when you debaffle.

My opinion of dealership technicians is this: Most are as young as my own sons, they ride sportbikes (if they ride at all), and they see far fewer Vulcans as they do Ninjas. They also work on PWCs, mules, and dirt bikes. They may know how to perform maintenance procedures, but little else. Most of them just don't have the experience with v-twins/cruisers.

I've enjoyed my debaffled pipes and noticed no difference in performance. Try to find someone close to you that has done it and listen to their bike. I've also heard if you don't like it you can put the baffles back in (don't know if it's true). I guess they have to be welded back in place. I'd be happy to let anyone hear mine that's thinking about doing it, if you're near the Pensacola, FL area. Mine is an 08 1600.

Yeah reg you can put them back in. Welding will work or like another guy on this forum used three or four sheet metal screws.

Just kidding TR...I know you are just trying to help!

Actually I kind of flip flopped in my opinion after my debaffle as well. At first I liked it but did not like the thump thump thump at highway speed...wanted quieter......and I got it quieter....by accident! I installed Valkyrie tips and Chuckster's lowers at the same time....somehow one of these mods or possibly the combination of the two really made a difference at speed.

Now I love the sound, but don't kid yourself, it isn't the sound of Netnorske's V&H's with the "Ultimate" debaffle.....but for the huge $$$ difference BD's debaffle does offer a little deeper tone than stock for little cost.

No performace issues that I have noticed (6 mos-5000 miles).

Good luck.
Funny stuff...

If you don't mind a new member chiming in...

I got the V&H Classic Baggers and was really happy with them. they gave a deeper rumble that I liked. But a near miss got me to slide the baffles out.

At first I thought it was just too loud... period. I rode for a day, went home and put them back in. Knowing my nature, I took them out again for another listen, and they still sit in a bag in my garage to this day.

I love the sound and I love the turning heads when I start it up. I have had no issues w/ performance whatsoever.
