I have ridden with a bowling ball tied down on the back seat and if used right you could do a lot of damage and even kill someone with it.
Granted, it's common in P/U trucks in the rural areas of the West. (Easy Rider gun rack) However, I can just see that motorcycle motoring through Las Vegas and drawing LEOs like flies on you know what. I might add that it would be legal, but still a long conversation would be had. But some people just have to draw attention to themselves.

If that isn't enough reason for a LEO to go on a fishing expadition I don't know what is.
I think he meant why bother doing it Tim and if not, it sure is my question why bother doing it at least the obvious way in the pic.

I am a LEO and yes it would draw attention but don't see off the top of my head that there would be anything illegal about it. Doesn't require a carry permit.
I carry every where I go and on the bike is no exception. I have been wanting to get a Rossi Ranch Hand and put it in a scabbard on the front forks like the old WW2 Army Bikes. But I don't want the added attention!! I already wear a vest with my LE club information all over it and the added long gun on the bike would just draw too many looks...LOL

It's so he can put the bike out of it's misery (and his) when it breaks down.

The idea makes plenty of sense for a Law Enforcement agency. Not so much for the rest of us.

I see a lot of utility to carrying a long gun in addition to a sidearm. It's only prudent to do so. That said, this set up leaves a lot to be desired. It's too slow to aceess and vulnerable to the elements. Think about the set up i laid out below. Personally, i am a much bigger advocate of the carbine over the shotgun in my experience. Why not just mount a scabbard for transport and quick access then use a cable lock for security when parked. You could just secure the trigger guard or even go through the receiver ejection port and around the frame.

Yeah those were cool photos.
The guy going down hill is bracing his feet on the engine guards.

At the last of the pictures are magazine covers... one of them replicates the guy going down the hill. It must have impressed them enough to use it.

Wonder if he actually made it down the hill without falling over... something we'll never know.

Cool pics for sure! That downhill one looks like a rush. I see that picture was taken near me here in Colorado Springs. Only it would have been at Camp Carson in 1944. It didn't become Fort Carson until 1954.
