People who ignore you on the road.

Fellas,

Just a couple of thoughts that may sum some of this up. More and more people who drive a particular mode of transportation that they perceive to be far superior to anything else on the road, automatically are entitled. They think that just because they drive a very expensive mode of transportation, they are entitled to drive however they wish. Even if it means running over a few minions along the way.
My answer to that is the only "right" you have is the "right" to take the driver's exam, and you have the "right" to purchase whatever vehicle you wish. If you pass the exam, you are granted the PRIVILEGE by the state to drive your expensive transportation on THEIR roads. If you continually violate those privileges, the state can take those privileges away. Driving is not a right or entitlement, it is a privilege. Most lose sight of that fact. My two anyhoo.

Why thank you Mike. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

And, yes, there are lots of brands of stupid out there on the road. Giving some folks a driver's license is like giving a loaded gun to a monkey.

People who ignore you on the road.

It's pretty simple, actually. At least in my experience. About 75% of those on the road seem to be alert and pay attention, see me, and give me room. The other 25%, no matter what they are driving (car, truck, bus, semi, or even bike) wouldn't see anyone else even if the other person was driving a tank.

It's hard to see anyone when you are:
a) Talking on the phone.
b) Texting on the phone.
c) Singing and dancing to the music or adjusting the radio.
d) Shaving or putting on make-up.
e) Reading a map, instruction manual (just not on how to drive), or novel.
f) Playing solitaire on the laptop (saw this in a semi).
g) Changing clothes.

Did I miss any?

Oh, forgot one. Over the weekend, I figured hell actually froze over when I passed a HD with straight pipes on a two lane. He was going about 55mph holding a cell phone with his left hand. How he could hear or the person on the other end could hear over the straight pipes and wind is beyond my comprehension.

People who ignore you on the road.

Years ago I had to ride with one of our female salespeople to visit a customer. She drove and was a true multi-tasker. She was drinking a cup of coffee, talking on the phone, and writing in her day planner - all while she was trying to drive. I had never been so thankful to get out of a car in my life.

CQ, are you sure you weren't riding in Dallas? I don't know if we're the epicenter of yuppieville, but we're damn close. Every day I see someone who thinks they are entitled to every lane at the same time, no matter who else is on the road. They change lanes without looking at all and then wonder where we came from "all of a sudden." They live for their cell phones and couldn't live without them, even though they might kill you because that conversation about last night's episode of _______ was "like totally cool." The problem is they have no clue who is around them and they change lanes without looking at all.

I agree with Matt (that's really scary), that the Stebl horn is great for breaking yuppies out of their self-induced trance.

SWB, I haven't been through Dallas in 30 years, and it sounds like I shouldn't rush to get there either. ;)

I'm not sure you're even safe in a Semi in Dallas!!! Houston isn't much better!!!! At least my commute for the most part is all on rural roads!
