Oh, h3ll yeah! Those boogers should be torqued down. It's like 15 ft-lb on my bike but I don't know the 1600's.

It's not so much that the axle nut would unscrew, but that with the pinch bolts loose that wheel is just attached to the left fork leg and the right leg is floatin' on the axle. This could cause some interesting handling at speed or over bumps.

BTW, I'd have given that dealer a serious ration of $hit over that mistake.

One of the reasons I always liked to buy tires at the Super Shop is that they had two different guys torque your lug nuts by hand. I think things like axle nuts and brake bolts should be checked twice before a bike leaves the shop.

Well I took the bike to a different dealer this time about the Squealing Sound. The mechanic there also rides a Nomad and he said that he has the same problem. He says it is the pressure relief valve on the gas tank venting. Has anybody ever heard of this before. He asked me if it ever does it when it's just idling, sitting still. I told him NO, only when I'm out riding on the bike.

So what do you think? Anybody ever heard a loud squealing sound from the gas cap venting?

So how do you get it corrected? The sound is very loud and distracting.

My gas cap used to whistle but I would not call it a squealing sound. It was annoying though. I removed the little wafer thing in there and no more noise.

Thanks TC

I don't think the squealing is coming from the gas tank it is just too loud. They have the bike and are gonna check it out again. I still think that it's either a bad wheel bearing or the fan maybe. I might just get them to put in new wheel bearings and see if it stops.

You have to take the gas cap apart and modify it. Go to Gadgets fixit page for instructions. I had done the same thing as TC two years ago and it stopped it.

If you park the bike hot, in the sun, with a hot tank of gas, and you don't hear the noise after a few minutes, it's not the gas cap. If you do hear it, and it stops when you open the cap, then it is the cap. Simple, right?

But it made the noise the other morning when I rode the bike to work. It was early morning 6:30 28 degrees. Would it still have made that noise from the tank?

Probably not at those temps. Mine does it when it's much hotter. It whistles sort of like a tea kettle.

But when you hear the noise, just open the cap. If it stops then you'll know.

Does the squeal slow down as you slow down or does it maintain pitch until it just quits?
Will it continue if you slow down without touching the brakes?

Good to know there is something that I can do about that annoying gas cap noise.

Ours does that as well, but never when riding it. Only after it is parked, or when idling in pretty hot temps... I seriously doubt that is what it is if it does it when its cold. CaddmannQ is right tho, sounds exactly like a tea kettle....
