That is why I can't understand why yours made you sweat?
Just because it gortex does not mean you want sweat (gortex does ont stop sweating, it allows water vapor to pass - your sweat has to turn to water vapor for it to work).

Having used the stuff in for the last 25 yrs in my work I can tell you that if you are wearing a gortex jacket in summer temps and humidity in the south, you are going to get wet from the inside out.

Heres the jacket I got yesterday, its the Viking Tempest II and seems like it will fit all my needs. It has five zippered outer pockets, one zippered inner pocket, armpit vents to allow it to breathe, a removeable hood which is held on with velcro and is supposed to be 100% waterproof.
The best thing is I didn't see made in China on it. It is from BC Canada.
