does anybody know if the red safety lens that are on the lower saddlebag lids are held on with double sided tape or bolted on...also, has anyone had a rattle somewhwere in the dashboard

If the lenses are bolted on there would be fasteners inside the saddlebag ?

The chrome piece that surrounds the ignition switch has been known to rattle. I fixed it on my Voyager by putting a thin elastic band around the surround and then pushed it back in place. Put your hand on the part while riding and see if the rattle stops.

Mine comes about halfway unsnapped and rattles very badly. I just snap it back down and ride on.

there is an inner plastic lining that is on the inside of the saddlebag lid, so i cant see if its bolted in, figured i would ask, i have seen vaqueros without the reflectors and it looks better without them. didnt want to try to take off the inner piece to see if it was bolted on.prob just glue on with double sided tape

There are a few possibilities for a rattle... Search the archives... But in order of level of irritation here are the main suspects:

1. The front of the tank center chrome trim can set up a shake against the tank on decel - couple of pieces of sticky-backed sponge needed there.

2. The chrome bezel set around the key can get a bit of a buzz on - more sticky-backed sponge (this time very thin is OK) required under that.

3. Lastly, there have been reports that sometimes the gauge surrounds themselves make a little noise... You guessed it. Sticky backed sponge.

Easiest way to find the problem is while riding - put a little pressure with preferably your left hand here & there to see where the issue is.

Oh, and the reflectors are held on with 3M tape... I know because I took one off, then put it back on after a major saddlebag repair & paint, the same way.

Edit: the reflectors for the Voyager come off easy, use dental floss... The reflectors for the Vaquero won't come off easy, they'll survive the apocalypse unless major surgery is undertaken

Regarding the reflector on the saddlebag, the smartass answer is "yes" because both are true. The actual reflector is held to a black base with double-sided tape but the base is held on to the cover by two Phillips screws. I replaced them a few years ago. You have to drill two 1/4" holes thru the inside cover at the right location and then you can unscrew the whole assembly. I always thought those things were ugly as hell and looked like outriggers. I tried taping just the reflector on the saddlebag cover but the curvature never made it stick or look right. I just went to Lowe's and got a couple of black plugs. I've attached some pics:

A couple more pics. Note these are obviously for the Vaq. Peg is right. On his Voyager it looks like they are taped on. Your post didn't specify which model you were asking about.

1 thing to add to Pegs post.

#4 bolts on the air filter and the other side. check all 4 bolts on each side. I had lost 3 and never new it. Sounded like an old army repeater trigger gun. Myself and Mike Fay (or some one he knows) had the same issue.

Just a thought on weird, noises.

Pull out the inside liner of the door, Then you will be sure.
I will check with a local guy that removed his and try to get back to you with a definite answer.

Well, mine's a 2014 Vaquero too so what I posted earlier is what it is. It's difficult to remove and install the inner door liner on the Vaq saddlebag doors without major work. I had a 2006 Nomad with the same bags and tried to remove the inner liner but gave up. I think you do more harm than good. Anyway, the measurements in the link I posted are almost perfect enough to be able to reach the screws and remove the reflectors. It'll be easier then to just silicone the holes, put the same plugs in as on the outside or just leave them be as is.
