The Dark Side Car Tires on your Nomad?

I have several friends who are tired of replacing tires every 7 to 10,000 kilometers That is 2,703 to 3861 miles. My plans this year are to qualify for the Iron Butt run in 2010. It is 11,000 miles in 11 days 28,488 kilometers. Tires is becoming a real concern of mine. I need distance and safety, but car tires here in Canada seem to be the only way to get distance. Of the riders I know with them I have seen no problems as long as they stay with the X rated tires. Would really appreciate the input of this membership. I have been a biker 42 years, back in the day we had no choice what we had for tires but then we never had these roads speeds or powerful machines.. Your thoughts please!

The tire I have is V rated (I think). Here is the link to tire on the supplier site: http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.p...se=&LoadRange= . So far it has about 11,000 miles on it and doesn't show hardly any wear. I'm very pleased with the handling, comfort and and overall performance on all sorts of road surfaces and weather conditions.

I'm wondering what the police bikes run as far as tires?

They must make lots of mileage in a year an not sure they change the tires every 12-15k!!!!!

could you email or post the name of the tire and the size. was thee any need for modification to the bike or rim? Kawasaki spec's say 170-70-16 what size are you running? ;)

The link shows the type and size of the tire, but it is an Achilles ATR Sport 195/55 R16. No modifications necessary. This is a lower profile than stock on the Nomad so speedometer error is greater.

Id switch over to a car tire in a second, but I really like the look of the whitewalls on my bike. If I find a whitewall car tire I think I give it a try.

So, if I'm not that mechanically able, who will put a car tire on for me. My local Kaw shop or Les Schwab?

I don't know of any car tire that has a whitewall on both sides.

I had American Ironhorse in Huntsville, TX do mine for me. They charged me $75 since I didn't remove the wheel or saddlebags, and made them do all the work. That included dynamic balancing.

Ringadingh's gonna have to take pictures of his bike from the left if he puts that whitewall car tire on! Or right, depending on which way he mounts the tire...

I've got about 3K miles left on my back tire. I plan on going to the dark side for sure. From what I have read and seen, it seems to be a great move for a penny pincher like myself.

I'll make sure I write up my impressions.

Has anyone ever been told by a tire shop that they would not mount anything less than a Z rated tire?
