Battery Tender

With the battery tender I have from Walmart it came with a pigtail to attach directly to the battery terminals .Then all that is necessary is to attach to charger to the pigtail and plug the charger in the ac outlet

Yep, just connect the pigtail to the battery and route it to where it;s easily accessible. Mine is right under my seat on the right side.

Scott - are the leads on the outside the seat or do you have to take the seat off to hook the tender up?

Do you have to worry about the ends of the pigtails touching?

I use a Walley World Shumaker costin' 20 bucks. It is rated at 1.5 amps, and is auro float/anti sulfation pulse, probablt the best charger for these bikes going. It comes with 2 sets of leads.

One had clips you can usae on anything, and the other gets hard wired to the bike battery. I ran my forward and down passing it thru the wire hoses retainer, so it is looking factory with the hoses and wires, accessed from behind Jug 2 and on the left side away from the exhaust..

When riding the prong plug is capped off with a plain black cap a tad tight. I used spreading pliers to get is able to fit better.

I have been gone since last Thursday, and used the charger on my cage for kicks with the clips. That battery is pre 2002.

Bill, I have one from walmart as well. Have the leads/pigtail connected to the batter with the end sticking out on the right side. When I don't need it I just push it back behind the right side cover and then fish it out when I do. Mostly for winter storage.

Connect the pig tail to the battery and route the plug out wherever your heart desires.........not hard to do.

I hooked my pigtail to the battery and it is on the left side. I also have a pigtail on the right side for my Slime compressor. It doesn't matter which side you route it. I did left side because of the way I park and the electric outlet is on the left side.

ditto. Pigtail lays down between seat and right side cover with it's cap on.

i put mine right inside the removable cover on the right side.....the cover will pull out enough to get the end of the pigtail w/o having to remove the screw down by the exhaust pipe.....if it does slip its no big deal to take the cover off......

One little option I made to fit the pig tail was with a NAPA trailer lead pig tail. These come 2 per packet. The wire colors are brown and a white. With out thinking very much, something i am good at I plugged this pig tail to the one on the battery to see which color wire was hot with a test light.

Then wired that to a ciggy butt socket. So I can power anything that fits a lighter socket from there if i want. The socket and pig tail live in the mesh bag.

This one is aux to the one mounted at my wind screen.

If the left side cover wasn't stuffed with tools all the time i could velcro that socket in there behind my TFI and charge phones or what ever riding.

On the USA trip that is exactly what was done, since tools were in a trailer the bike was pulling.
