The beginning-sheep skin seat cover

After reading "BiscuitsNGravy aka Dave Mills" post in January on fastening a sheep skin to an airhawk, I knew pretty much that that was one direction I was going; I really tend to like the old nostalgic look.

Anyway, I started shopping for a skin and looked all over the net to find the color I wanted. Even though my bike is black, I didn't want a totally black skin; I just figured it would be too hot. I found what I was looking for at http://www.sheepskin.com/ . No, I don't work for them but I just thought I'd pass on the info. I bought a full skin rug, and I'm going to leave it as a full skin, stitch it to my air hawk, cut a slit for my grasshopper, and leave it as a whole skin so my passenger seat is covered for my wife.

I haven't got it stitched yet, but I thought I'd give you all a look at the skin if anyone is interested. They are on sale, offer a lot of colors, even pink (I've never seen a pink sheep), and the cost is $69.99 delivered.

The fur is nice and thick and very soft.

I'll post pics when I get it all done. I'm sure it will look great, the skin is beautiful.

Nice pelts, how you going to keep the whole pelt from flapping in the breeze? I have a natural pelt that just covers both seats but never tried to attach it yet. I am using a proPad gel seat with sheepskin cover(black),

Good question Doc. The front will attach(sewing) to the an Airhawk(non skid bottom) and I have used small bungees to hold that in place in the past. I hope I don't have to tuck the front of the skin under the Airhawk, but if that flaps, I may have to.

The Grasshopper, I'm pretty sure will do a great job of holding the center. What's left in the rear is a good question. Hoping it doesn't flap that much behind me, trimming will be last resort. Velcro straps to hold it down to the passenger grabs rails or the top of the saddle bag racks. I've been thinking about that one, I really want to show off the skin.

Hey Fish, how did you do it?

I use nylon tie-down straps across the back of the seat. One at the very back and one just behind the backrest. They go all the way around the seat. Then bold the seat back on. Works well.

Very nice looking skins. Having used one myself, I can tell you that you are in for a real treat. I use mine directly over the Mustang seat, but it is not the typical hard Mustang. It is the Regal version with built-in additional padding. Works great, I just cut it oversized for front and rear and tuck it in and under allaround. Stays put until I remove it. Doesn't flap around in the wind. The price you found is excellent!

If you make it over hear to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, or Utah. I would avoid using it. The hunters over here are serious and you may get shot!.

Glad you found what you were looking for - it should look great!

That's a fine lookin' pelt, Caddman. I think you will really like it. I've yet to ride any long rides with the skin, but it's just gotta be comfortable. I found that the AirHawk works best under the skin when it has just enough air to get you some comfort. If you pump it up too much you sit kinda high. You'll sure get a lot of looks and favorable comments when people see it!

For the rest of you all, here's the photos that I originally posted:

I purchased a Black full sheep skin and then cut it to fit my mustang drivers seat cutting a slit to insert the back rest in this holds it quite well, and then took the other half and made a cover for a corbin driver seat. A sheep skin is the way to go. keeps you from sweating in summer or have a hot seat to set on, and it really is nice in colder weather too. It took a long time for me to finally try one and once I did I don't think I will ever be without one.
