Along that line of questioning, I am wondering about running my trailer lights off the existing wiring circuit on the Vaquero, or if I should get the isolator (which I may do anyway) that runs the trailer lights right off of the battery? I would think there would be enough power from the alternator to simply run the trailer lights, right?

The generator is 46.8 amps. Volts times amps is the wattage.
Example 46.8 amps x 14 volts = 655.2 watts.

I ride a 09 voyager. Pull a cyclecolor alum, trailer. Hitch is from MCHITCH. I ordered the harness needed from them also. It has the isolator included in the harness.
Was not hard to wire in, but on the voyager I had to remove the trunk during install of the hitch and wire harness. It was easy as I remember that I got the trailer 4 days before a long trip and the hitch 2 days before. Pulled the trailer at least 20,000 miles since and not 1 issue. I would suggest the isolator. Factory system may blow fuses. I also have added extra lights to the trailer.
Shep.

Here is My list of power options on the voyager. Still original battery.
Garmin 660
HID headlight kit
IPOD
Hella HID lights on crash bar
stock driving lights
Heated seats (Mustang with heat installed by My leather shop)
Cig lighter
wolo badboy
LEDs under tank
Fosgate 300x4 amp.
polk db521 front and rear
Trailer has 4 LED tail lights and 4 LED strips on rear. Also sige marker lights that i replaced the reflectors with.
12 volt accessorie plug
HERO 3+ gopro camera
Cobra power pro also wired in.

I have only ever blown a fuse on the heated seats because I mistakenly had the seats wired in with the HID hella lights.
No issues since I split them up.
Dave, the back of My trailer so i am seen.

front and rear comm kit.
Harley tri pouch windshield
Leather lever wraps with tassels. (I shortened the tassels)
tour pegs on crash bars
Freedom performance true duals. I bought the ones for a Vaq.
Running an altimax on the rear. (5th MC tire at 30000 miles was the last straw) 6000 miles on the altimax and still looks brand new. I aint easy on tires either.

The harley Chicks all look at the voyager, even when wife is there taking pictures. LOL She sees something hot.

You sir are correct. I wired my convertor into the OEM harness with the help of a guy from Florida that makes an adapter that connects between the main harness and rear fender harness. This adapter harness has tag lines to connect your convertor to so you don't have to cut into your OEM harness. You can also use the adapter for LED lighting or other lighting as long as you don't overload the circuit. The adapter harness is a cheap way to preserve your OEM harness. Hope this helps.

Can provide contact info on the harness adapter vendor if you need it.

The unit I used before and will probably order again is the following:

http://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-46255-...hoppy+isolator

Its really just a relay, that draws the power for the trailer lights from the battery instead of the wiring harness for the lights.

Now that trailer will be SEEN! Nice Rig! I haven't had much time on my bike so the only pictures I have is the ones in my profile. But I have picked up a time-out camper and have another trailer in the works to haul my R/C airplanes to the flying field. That will be a home-build that I will be working on in the spring. All I need is time and less snow (we have about 12" on the ground now...and another 10" on the way tonight).

Ditto on the window pouch, I want one of those as well but not sure how I want to mount that, so any info is welcome!

I fabbed up a couple lightweight brackets and used 2 of the screws that come through from the windshield mount. Had to purchase 2 new longer bolts also. Just little shaped brackets. You can use anything as long as You can bend it a little. That is a Harley tri pouch that has the metal bracket on it from Harley. Most don't have that and you will need it to mount. I think the pouch was like 100 bucks since it has Harley-Davidson stamped in the leather.

Yes, we have about 17 additional on the ground Today. I been out on the John Deere lawn tractor twice today for 2 hours each time. I got now piled up 5 feet high everywhere with that little tractor. Now the wind is whipping it around. Still 21 degrees here but, - 17 for the overnight as soon as the fridgid air pushes in.

Found a pic to give you an idea how. Lightweight alum kinda bent in a slight C shape.
