A Look Back in History

For those who love history.....This is a clip that portrays the old bars and dance halls in small towns in central Louisiana. Some are long gone but some are still standing and rocking such as "Fred's Lounge" in Mamou, LA. Darlene and I plan on making a trip to Fred's one Saturday. That is the only day they are opened now and it attracts people from all over the world. Enjoy.

Looks like that would be a fun Saturday night ride back in time. Get a motel room and stay until the next morning. Thanks for the link.

There is a small rural Idaho town called Roberts about 70 miles north of here on the interstate where a man and wife from Louisianna opened a bar/restaurant called BJ's Bayou. Painted the entire outside, all two stories, dark red. Alligators in a pond inside the door watch as you walk by and some of their kin are on the menu. Good food and a great way to spend an evening ride with friends.

Yea Bud, we will stay overnight. All of my relatives (Aunts, uncles, and cousins) live within rock throwing distance of Fred's. You never know who you'll meet there. Tourists come from all over the world to dance to the French music or at least try to.

A Look Back in History

Last year our church partnered with another in our area and we went to start the Welcome House. A shelter for people needing help to get their life back on track. It is located outside of Crowley, LA. We were housed outside of Eunice, between there and Crowley. We only went into town once on Saturday night to eat. It is really hard to tell some of the history of a town by the way it looks today.
We are returning this year (March 20 thru 26) to kick off phase II. I had hoped to ride down there to see some of the sights anyway, depending on weather. when it rains there it really rains. Maybe I can see some of these old places now that I know what it used to be like.

You are right about the rain. I got caught in one of those Louisianna rain storms that drifted into Ohio and darn near drowned on the bike before I could get under a bridge. I forgot how hard it rains back east.

Jesse, I will have to ride over there and look you up. Are you riding your Nomad down? I'm working nights the weekend of the 20th but I'm off the 24th - 29th. Remind me before you leave so we may be able to plan to meet up.
