You hop on that thing and something in your mind clicks that makes yo want to travel to a good rally a thousand miles away. It makes you feel young and alive again. Feelings such as that, I know somebody like Verne must have known.

I hope nobody feels guilt or responsibility for this accident. Verne was maybe in the prime of his life but when the Man up stairs calls you, it's your time, no matter what you're doing. For us to try to understand God's ways would be the same as making your pup understand algebra.

My thoughts and prayers are with Verne's family tonight.
Thank you Kawhead for those words. I have been seating here and, even though I have been telling some people not to be thinking this way, but I on the other hand have been doing the"what if we done this instead of" and then what if this or what if that.
It's a little tough since I made it here because a week ago he called me to ask me if I was coming down here and so after talking to my wife I got to ride down here with him.
I just feel for his family, specially his wife because she stopped riding with him when he turned 70 but told he was not going to stop him from doing what he loved to do. He had a 2011 Vaquero that he had put on over 60,000 miles on and he had no plans on slowing any.
Framers wife specially is still taking it very hard as are a lot of others here and back home.
RIP Olddog

Well, I had to let people know things like that because when I hit a deer (the deer hit me) I was riding with Todd and Amy. I was laying in the ER with a dislocated ankle and cracked heel bone. I could sense the "we could have " and "we should have" feeling. I can't remember if I told them it wasn't their fault. But it wasn't. It wasn't even the deer's fault. I had two months of convalescence to lay in my recliner and think about things. I was the one that decided to hop on the bike and ride across the country, and when folks make a decision like that there're are some small and unlikely risks you accept. To me, riding My Beloved Nomad is akin to getting in the ocean. We all know whats out there. Things that bite, sting, or make you very sick. Things that could take me out very slow within eyesight of the pool next to the motel with a Tiki Bar and Super Model Babes wearing hardly nothing sunbathing.

To me, the safest place you can be is locked in in solitary confinement in a maximum security prison. Who the heck wants that? Not Kawhead.

The thought also ran through my mind that what if the unthinkable had happened, and if I made it to Motorcycle Heaven. I'd be up there wishing my friends wouldn't be feeling guilty and wanting to hold memorials, but thinking what a blast we had doing what I loved more than anything. The biggest thing that would have bugged me is for one of them to feel responsible, and me up there not being able to console them. Of course, we don't know what happens on the other side, but I believe it's something close to that.

I know there's a God up there, otherwise there wouldn't be dogs, motorcycles, or I wouldn't have made it to 52 years old.

By the way, I called it right. Verne at 70 was in the prime of his life, and still riding! Somebody like that is gonna be missed very badly. I miss the guy and never met him.

My heart felt sincere condolences go to the family appreciating what a unimaginable loss of what must have been the pillar of the family. I absolutely know he feels the same about them. I also know he wants them to remember the good times and live their lives to the fullest unhindered as he did, and make it to more than 70.

RIP Verene!!!!!!!!!!!

I just checked in and saw the thread. I can hardly believe it. We've taken that ride so many times with you all. Hey, I'm very sorry to hear of any loss, but this one stings on a different level... You guy take it easy coming home. Just get there. Kelli and I love you all, and will pray for continued safety, and Verne's wife and family. Really having Mixed feelings about missing this one..Rest In Peace Verne. David, I hope your wife's gonna be alright. Tough, her first time out.

Although I never met the man I'm sure we probably shared common interests and the love of motorcycling. An accident can come up on any one of us at any time. My prayers & condolences are with his family. RIP Old Dog.
