Vaquero intake leaks - Page 6

I was out to day for a long ride in cool weather. The mileage was in the 19 km per litre range.

Since resetting my mpg tonight, it climbed from 0 to 34 mpg just a few miles down the road.. after that I rode as easy as I could with light shifts and overdrive when I got up enough speed in areas. After about a 50 mile ride its now reading 39.5 mpg and climbing. (or should I say crawling). If I start riding over 3,100 rpms I begin to loose mpg if I stay under I have been gaining. Can someone tell me after resetting your MPG how fast have you gotten your average MPG back?

The biggest and most salient point about that calculated average mpg is this -- it's almost always wrong.

I'm also planning on running the tank down till the fuel light comes on. I'm guessing normal for the bike is somewhere between 170 mi and 190 mi before the low fuel light comes on??

The low fuel light - another lying sack of $hit - comes on for me around 150 miles. But I always have more than a gallon left in the tank at that point.

Same here! Usually around 150 to 160 miles and between 4 and 4.4 gallons.

How can you say this? Mine is and always has been within .1 mpg using actuall miles and gals. Maybe I just got lucky, but mine works like a champ.

That is exactly how mine is. I like knowing that when the light comes on, I have right at a gallon left. Keeps the panic mode in check :)

Mine and, except for yours, all others I have heard of are about 2 mpg "optimistic". Either you are lucky or I'm unlucky - and not alone in my misfortune.

This is not a big deal in my opinion.

Mine said 39.2 mpg at the last fill up. I had drove 153 miles by the odometer on 4.231 gallons of gas which is 36.16 mpg. Then re-figure the miles drove because of the odometer error 60 miles driven by odometer is actually only 57 miles traveled or a 5% error. So it's actually only 145.35 miles driven divided by 4.231 gallons for an average of 34.35 mpg.

Bouson, are you sure the Odometer is wrong? Historically, even thought the speedo is off, the odo is right on. I know that's how my '05 Nomad was, I haven't double checked the Vaquero.
Check it out.

If the Odometer is wrong, that's more of an issue. My wife and I recently bought a used Infinity SUV via private party. When I questioned the speedo accuracy, the dealer said there had been a recall and fixed it - part of the fix was to roll about 3000 miles off the odo to compensate for the past life of error.

The odometer may not be exact, but it won't be far off I think. Last week I rode to a rally with my wife: her odo (Victory Cross Roads) read 315 miles for the trip, mine read 318 miles. Dunno whose was right, of course, but one of 'em musta been off - but not by more than 1%.

Quite possible. Who's bike got ridden to the store mid-week and may have actually gotten a few extra miles? I bet yours did

That's funny cause my wife and I joke about that. We can take a Sunday afternoon ride for 100 miles and mine will show 103, hers will show 97 and the GPS wll show 94. Not really a big deal to me, just interesting to compare.
