Need the Brightest Vulcan Minds to answer this question(s)

Hi All,

I just purchased a '05 Vulcan (11.3k miles, $2.8K).
VIN #JKBVNKA185A013824. The dealer (HD) sold the bike to me as a 1500. I was at first reluctant to purchase a ’05 1500 Vulcan because I wanted fuel injection and shaft-drive.

I test drove the bike and liked the Corbin pipes and noticed it had shaft drive. I did some research and noted that 1600 had cast wheels, two disk-brakes up-front and a 170/70/ B16 rear tire size. This bike has all that and it also has the ignition on top of the tank and an FI indicator. The Bike is Beige in color. So I’m thinking that when the bike was originally titled, that it was titled as a 1500 Vulcan and not a 1600 Vulcan. Would you agree?

I was thinking of having the title amended so it will be correct if I later sell it. Should I correct the title?

Also this is a Classic that needs bags, I like the bags on the Nomad, and was wondering if they would fit on this bike?

Happy trails

It should have a date of mfg on the neck. Do you have a picture? Does the title match the vin?

Ignition on top on the tank....... does the seat but up to the tank or does it ride up on it several inches? Is the tank flat on bottom or is it slightly arched?

1500 is shaft and FI was on most models after '99. Switch on the tank could be a mod some one did from the 1600 tank gauges/cover.

You have a 2005 Vulcan Classic 1600 according to your vin number. I don't believe the nomad saddlebags will fit unless you change the pipe configuration to match the nomads.
You can download a free owners manual from here.

I'm thinking the cast wheels, two disk-brakes up-front and a 170/70/ B16 rear tire size points to 1600, because '05 1500's had spoke wheels, one disk up front and a smaller rear tire.

I guess I will have to go with after-market soft bags. I'll post picture when I'm done. Thanks all

Oldschool is right. Here is the specs for your bike from searching your VIN

http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/kaw...assic_2005.php

I have a 2007 Classic LT which is basically the same bike you have.

Denny6006 has cast wheels on his 2005 classic and Nomad saddle bags. Did it his self. Vin number is the only way to tell. His driver seat interchanges with my 2003 Nomad. Rear don't. Lot of mods can be done to this bikes.

Are the 'valve' covers smooth or do the have a scallop on the side?

The 1500 valve covers are smooth or straight, where the 1600 have a scallop to hide the oil lines.

Post or send a picture of the engine and it will be obvious which it is.

I know of a 2008 1500 Classic here in south FL.

That is a 1600.

And that is a 1500.

Wheels and other bolts on's are routinely swapped.

I think this is correct, the 1500 without saddlebags almost always have single disc front brakes , unless you swap out the biggest part of the front end. While Nomads and 1600 Classics both have the dual disc brakes the right leg on the classics don't have mounting bosses for the caliper. And the wheels wile both are cast the 1600 is totally different looking from the 1500 Nomad. Mas is right after you have owned one a while you can look at it for a few and spot the distinct differences between the 1600 and the 1500 engine. Strange thing is while the frames are totally different swapping an FI 1500 for a 1600 is pretty much a bolt in affair.,

Stock exhaust will probably interfere with the factory bags, I've got the Cobra Speedster Shorts on mine with plenty of clearance for the bags. But they don't have the large stock mufflers either. If you want Nomad bags there are ways around that issue.

Never heard of Corbin Pipes.

Kawasaki had a lot of overlap during these years. Sounds like you got a fair deal if the condition is there.

Yes there are, if you can be creative and modify the bag supports.

This isn't as easy as it would seem.

I have a good number of hours making a set fit my MeanStreak the way I want them to.
