What type of Oil do you use?

Book states 10w40, though I have read most are putting in 15w50 synthetic. Opinions on what you think works best please. ???

At 3895 miles, I switched from 10w-40 dino to 15w-50 mobil 1. I also put in synthetic oil in the differential. The 15w-50 is the gold cap extended performance and it does not have friction modifiers. If I can find some Amsoil locally, I will probably use the 10w-40 oil they make.

What type of Oil do you use?

according to mobil 1's web site

http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/Mo...ycle_Oil_FAQs2

To me it sounds like the gold cap oil does have friction modifiers. Under the motorcycle FAQ one of the questions ask about the difference between car oils and motorcycle oils and they mention the use of friction modifiers in their car oils. Mobil 1 only makes two types of oil designed for 4 stroke motorcycles.

From my understanding friction modifiers can cause a wet clutch to slip.

I have been using the Mobil 1 15-50w gold cap since the first oil change and have had no problem with clutch slippage. I have approx 24,000 miles on the bike.

Oh boy! AN OIL THREAD!!!!!!! I love these.

My buddy swears by Motul 5100. ($$$$$$)

I think I will be using either Mobil 1 Red cap, Rotella or Kawasaki oil.

I have been using Mobil 1, 15w50 Gold cap, synthetic for over 20,000 miles with no probs at all. I understand the yellow cap has the friction modifiers, but I've never seen it in the stores.

As far as an oil filter, I use the Bosch 3300. You can get it at any Auto Zone for 6 bucks.

It what a lot of guys use from the main board, and who am I to argue with the likes of scotty...The deal is, it does not say "Energy Conserving" on the bottle, in the little circle. If it did, then it would be a problem.

Red Cap is now Gold cap... or Grey cap, depending on the viscosity.

I use the Bosch as well. If we didn't have the damn cat, you could use the 3323, which has more filter area.

What type of Oil do you use?

Mobil V-Twin 20/50.

However, I'm going to try Rotella 15/40 since I run in in my Cummins and looking at the label it sounds like what the V-Twin $8 bucks per quart has in it.

What type of Oil do you use?

I've tried them all from Kaw oil to Rotella... Syn and non-syn... The best oil I have found for my 05' Nomad with 36K on the clock is 20-50... Shifts like a dream, runs cooler, fan hardley ever kicks on when running 20-50... Addes bonus is the wifes Sporty runs 20-50 so I only gotta one flavor out on the road... YMMV
