Opinion on Metzler ME 888 & progressive shocks for 06 1600 valcan nomad.

Hi Y'all. Time for new tires. Am thinking of installing Metzler ME 888 & progressive HD 13 shocks. Would like y'all's opinion or any people using this set up for 06, 1600 Valcan Nomad. Or a better set up for long haul touring.
Also request Info on Ivan flash for my bike. Thanks for any reply's. Y'all Ride safe & enjoy Ur journeys.

I have a ME888 on the front of my bike and prefer it to the Commander II it replaced.

The 888 feels like a softer compound and soaks up the bumps better than the Commander II.

The Commander II feels harsh in comparison.

I think tire life and grip will very due to rock minerals and other products used in the asphalt. In Bama, we use limestone and river rock. Limestone being used mainly around Northern half. That being said, Commander II is a great tire but if you are hard in the curves the soft side compound cuts away faster than the center compound. Wear tire side grip cupps pretty fast riding the curving roads. The Metzlers 888 seam to hold the side compound rubber longer, center rubber wearing about the same. Both grip great on dry spring and fall surface temps. When the asphalt temps rich 125 degrees the oils from the tare in the newer laid asphalt compound rises to the surface, gets slick in a hurry. The Commanders loose much more grip than the Metzlers. Tar snakes are always bad news but the Commander II on a heavy bike do not stick to them at all. Throw in a rain shower. Personal experience. The wet Commanders under braking will loose grip fast on the wet asphalt. Loose rear tire more than once! With the Metzlers I have yet to have the rear loose on the same asphalt at the same stop signs. As I said for me the Commander and the Metzlers are great tire to have. With our surface compounds the Mezlers 888 seam to hold up longer for me and wear more evenly. I do ride the curves alittle faster than most on a big bike so I know the side compounds are gonna cut away faster than some one that don't lean their bike and push their luck in the curves. If I get 10,000 out of a rear tire I can be happy.

Mine too, I used Dunlops most of the time, and have now changed to Shinko tires. They seem to wear pretty good, and are also available in whitewalls.

Tire replacement picked

Thanks for replies. After reading replies & several other tire posts. I went with Avon AV72 Cobras. Plus Avon manufacture has free road hazard warranty. Could not find any other tire companies offering road hazard. The Next few hundred miles will tell if I made a good choice. I Did get good even wear out of my old Metzlers.
