just finished up on reading this. That was some trip. The flat tire brought back flashbacks from a trip to the Blackhills. As the wife and I were riding just outside of Custer SD I felt there was a wobble that actually felt like it came from the front. Come to find out the rear was going flat. Had a compressor so filled her up and got back to town. At a gas station I found the nail and plugged the tire. Ride back home 600 miles and about 160 miles from home I feel the wobble again. This time I know to look at rear and sure enough was going down. After burning my hand from the hot exhaust I found another nail but air coming out faster than I could put it in. Luckily had just passed a town so went back, found a gas station and plugged it. Good thing it was a car tire, easy to plug. Got home, changed the tire.... didn't want to ride around with a tire with two plugs in it.

I actually carry both. On the first incident since it was a slow leak, I aired it up and got back to the hotel to find the culprit. Once I did pulled the nail and went to the gas station around the corner to air it up. Did not want to pull the nail in the middle of nowhere. The second time like I said, the air was coming out as fast as the compressor could get it in. Had to get to the gas station to actually find the leak, then fix it.

Tim, I have been to rallies where there were multiple rides organized as well as self guided rides. That way everyone can join one that meets their wants and keeps the group size reasonable. One day a longer ride, the next a short ride if desired.

My wife really liked the AVA rally near Hot Springs where they had a ride around the sights in Hot Springs, and at every stop you had to perform some kind of skill game.

I have come up with a route to get to Maine.
My thought was to ride to Fort McClary State Park in Maine.
But Crystal said she wants to go and I can't see us getting in a 400 mile ride.
That's a bit over her usual limit on her trike. My guess is we will be turning around somewhere in New Hampshire.

At any rate I was looking at taking 9 south from Lake George to 149.
149 over to U.S. 4 then east on 22 to 22A and 18A to Poultney.
From there 140 to East Wallingford and Hwy 103.
Ride 103 through Mt. Holly and Ludlow to 131.
Stay on 131 to just east of I-91 and get back on 103.
Keep on 103 through Mt. Sunapee to 114 near Bradford.
Ride 114 south east to U.S. 202 to Concord. 150 miles to there.
In Concord take 202 to 9 then back on 202. Or I-393 to 202.
Stay on U.S. 202 east to Northwood and U.S. 4 and go to Portsmouth.
Take U.S. 1 Bypass across the river and to Kittery, ME.
Hwy 103 would get us to the park.

GPS Mileage 196
GPS Time 4:51

You'll get within 4.3 miles of the house. You do it on Sunday and you'll have to stop in. Might make the ride to Maine and back a little more tolerable. Crystal could even stay with Sue and Mary while Dave C, you and me ride the rest of the way to Maine.

If it were me, I'd stay on Route 4 through Rutland to Woodstock and Queeche. Then I-89 across the river and back on Route 4 all the way to 93. South on 93 two exits to 393 east / Routes 4 / 9 / 202 and 4 all the way to the coast.

Dave it looks like a good route and ride. Just put her on the back of yours and ride it two up.

Thanks Tom. Maybe we'll stop by for a few minutes.
I was thinking about the route I mentioned mainly because some of hwy 131 was designated as a scenic route.
If U.S. 4 will be faster than that's what we'll do.

Those days are over. She won't ride on the back anymore.

I wish I had more time to ride around the area but unfortunately this trip I don't.

Yes, I recall the incline. I would like to make it over to Maine myself if possible. I guess we can play it by ear and see what happens.
