Cruise control issues

I have a 2014 vaquero, was wondering if anybody was having any issues with the cuise control. I'm having a terrible time just getting it to engage. Brought it to the dealer and he told me it works fine. Ive done this twice and both times when I leave them it works then I can't get it to engage again. Was wondering if there is something I can do. Thanks

Are you going over 35 mph and in one of the top 3 gears when trying to activate it?

The rear brake sensor is often the culprit on the cruise issues on these - Look under your right floorboard - it is basically unprotected -and gunk gets in there - the cruise thinks the brake is on and won't activate - Try stomping on the rear brake a few times and releasing hard and fast (While stopped of course!) - Or squirt a little WD-40 up that way - in a pinch, you can get down on your hands and knees, lean up under there and give it a good blow to clear the gunk out . . . Any or all of the above have consistently solved my Voyager's intermittent Cruise issues.

I had to adjust the rear brake switch it was out of adjustment and the cruse thought I was pressing the brake. Its pretty simple to adjust just make sure there is a little slack and the switch isnt activated when in the rest position.

Cruise Control

I had similar problem. Search the forum for the troubleshooting process. It only take about a minute to perform. The codes will tell you what the problem is. In my case it was the throttle position sensor. The sensor is basically a micro-switch. The dog that makes the switch is a stamped metal piece that was basically set too heavy. I gently bent the dog to the position it should be (if I remember right I had to "unmake" the switch) and have had problems since. Took me a total of 40 minutes. BTW ....the daler wnated my bike for two weeks to do the same thing.

I adjusted the rear breaks a quarter turn and now it engages every time. Thanks for all the help. Going to be going on a ride down to Tucson next week and I really needed the cruise.

Mine quit after 1 day. Checked the rear brake sensor yesterday and 1 turn of the screw and it's fine now. Love this forum.

You should pass that on to the dealer as evidently the mechanic or whoever looked at it didn't think about that as being the problem.

I had my cruise quite working completely. I had rode allot in the rain the day before and just determined while riding that in the rear where the sensor is that it must have been dam dirty from all the rode crude. Stopped at car wash and washed bike and behold works perfect every time. Just a dirty sensor I feel most times.

How do you adjust rear brakes on a bike with hydraulic disc brakes? Did you adjust the linkage from the brake pedal to the master cylinder?

I haven't had the cruise on my '11 Vaquero quit, but it feels as though it is "surging" all the time - it's subtle, but it'd doing it. Just wondering if it may be from the same issue of the brake sensor? Anyone else had this type of issue?

My '09 Nomad had the same cruise set up and never gave me a problem.

Any thoughts would be appreciated ! :)

Cheers,

As per my limited knowledge..of disc brake systems...the only 'adjustment, is to add fluid..or install new (thicker) brake pad's... ! ?

The adjustment on the rear brake I for brake pedal position, enabling owners to position the pedal for best operation.

YEA...the c/c on my Vaq surges at times, but it is more noticeable due to gusts of wind.
