You know what really fries my ham?

Okay, so I designed an audio system for a venue in Tulsa. Really sweet system, plus full on theatrical lighting. Great gig. It's an existing building that they are blowing out the backstage wall and adding forty feet to increase seating.
Anyway, there's always quite the dance to schedule the actual installation and commissioning with Architect, Client, General Contractor, Electrical Contractor etc, but you make friends with the process.
So I'm on the phone for hours with the GC and finally it looks like we have solution. I'll have my crew on site for 3 weeks, and I'll come down for 3 days or so at the end to commission and tune.
The dates for me to be onsite? June 15th, 16th, & 17th! :(" title="" border="0"/> :(" title="" border="0"/>
Yeah, Custer Rally week. I am beyond torqued off about this.
There's still hope, as with any project like this it could be delayed or, in this case even expedited and I still may be able to pull it off.
Worst case is that I just fly in straight from Tulsa to see everyone on the last day...bikeless...(horrors!) :(" title="" border="0"/>
Anyway, it ain't' over yet, but I just got home and needed to vent.
I've never held a Monday through Friday 9 to 5 job, but it's starting to look good about now. I actually scheduled my vacation to attend Custer, but in production you have to flexible to survive.
So here's hoping things fall into place for me to be there as planned.

Aww, that just plain sucks! :(" title="" border="0"/>

I was lucky - I am on call for work every third week from Mon AM to Mon AM. I'd have to do all kinds of bargaining to switch weeks with someone, but I don't go on call until the week after the rally. I plan to be home on Sunday after the rally and I want to take Monday off to clean up the bike, etc. So I only have to swap one day with somebody.
It couldn't have worked out any better for me.

I hope things work out, AG!

AG,
Now that's a bummer. I know that there are some great people planning on attending the rally, but there will always be other friends who, for one reason or another, can't make it. It's looking like I'll end up in the latter category as well. Not because of work, which I fully expected, but because my grandmother is getting really ill and I'm being asked to do both of her funerals (one in AZ and the other in IN). I really wish that I could attend in Custer because I have so enjoyed meeting people on this forum, but when the time is right I know that I'll be seeing a number of y'all.

Can't you rig that gig up to run it remotely from the Nomad? Great, I just posted my intent to be there. Keep working on it dude.

Daryl, I feel your pain. I have had those issues before when I have wanted to go somewhere. Hopefully they have a week delay or they are a week faster. Get the prayer machine going.

Wow audiogooroo, that is too bad. I felt sorry enough for you having to ride that green bike around, but now I REALLY feel for you!

Sorry- just couldn't resist. Your bike looks fine- guess I just had a little too much of John Deere green while growing up on the farm.

I sure hope you can get this worked out. I really struggle with the balance of work and trying to do something fun and just shutting the job off. It ain't easy!

Things may work out AG. You never know. It's 3 1/2 months away.

Murphy's Law. :(" title="" border="0"/> Key words were that you would have "your crew" on site for three weeks. Really work hard and you could cut them some slack later? Dog it and come in behind, maybe not so good? Plead with the big wigs for some slack? There has got to be an alternative in there somewhere. Hope it works out so you can come to the rally.

+1 Agreed... besides... aren't you the project manager?... you know... the one in control?

Couldn't you just "adjust" a few installation issues that cause the project to be delayed at least a week?

Just a thought man.

Haha! Believe me the thought has crossed my mind...but then integrity rears it's ugly head.
As for MarkG's suggesstion to "Plead with the big wigs for some slack?" , that's the problem...I AM the big wig. And I am merciless to work for...at least when it comes to me! ;)
I am hopeful things will work out. Haven't ever had a schedule that was set up 3 months in advance work out as planned yet.

that would be a bummer AG. I was hoping to have some beer time with ya since Mesquite was so short and we didn't get to chat that much! I'll keep my fingers crossed! With my job I never know what "emergency" DOJ issue could pop up and cause my boss to say, "you probably shoud be around for this!" so I know what it's like to get squeezed.... Lets hope for the best!
