battery tender on a covered bike?

last winter i just removed the seat and hooked up the battery tender, which worked fine for the battery but the bike got covered with dust/grime over the course of the winter in the garage. is there any reason i can't remove the seat, hook up the battery tender and then put a cover over the entire bike for the winter?
