After Market Trunk by Mutazu

I wonder if anyone has used or bought an aftermarket trunk from:

http://www.mutazu.com/products.php?c...285&s=prod.php

They appear as OK and the price is right.

I had one on my Nomad until I replaced it with a Scootworks Super Trunk 3. They are small and cheap. Just my opinion, but they look odd because they are small and they and scream "el cheapo". There's a member who lives near you with one. You might see if you can check it out before you buy one.

I bought this trunk off ebay for $85. While I painted it and it's on my bike, it really is a piece of junk. It shakes real easily because the latch on the back is poorly made which allows the top to rattle quite easily. It opens toward the back seat instead of to the side which really isn't good when you have something (or someone) sitting on the pillion. It's abs plastic and very flimsy feeling, plus it won't really hold a full face helmet (I have a shoie qwest helmet with a sena bluetooth headset on the left side). You have to turn the helmet to the side and take off the bluetooth to make it fit which also means only one helmet will fit inside, not 2 helmets. Also the moumt that it comes with is a joke. The didn't really even need to include it.

If I had done my research, I would have never bought this trunk. Right now I think the best trunk for the money is this one: http://www.recklessmotorcycles.com/tourpacks.htm

It's $285 without the latch, lock or hinges (it's a harley tourpack compatible trunk) or paint but you rlocal harley dealer will have all parts necessary at a fairly cheap cost. I am certainly going to buy it when I get the chance!

Avoid! I sent one back because it was so flimsy that when you tried to operate the lock everything bent. It was a different vendor, but same box. I ended up going back to a GIVI case. More money but built like a tank. The shapes and sizes are limited though and I think most people on here are looking for something like the big HD box. Just MHO!

Regards,
Lawrence

After Market Trunk by Mutazu

Thanks for all the input and I'll just wait out a Harley Tour Pack. The prices
are not much different than the Scootworks Super Trunk 3 when you load it
all out. The local Craigslist in LA and here in Orange County, CA usually
has one or more show up weekly.

If you can find one Ebay the color of your bike you can get a Harley tourpak with the back rest hinges and luggage rack fairly resonable if you can paint or have some one who can paint it makes it easy to find one
like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-David...item20bf5ccbd4

I have had one for several years and have had no troubles or complaints about it. It is big enough to hold 2 full face helmets, and some more. I bought mine directly from Mutazu

I have CJs old cheap looking trunk. It is still on my bike and it works. it is smaller than the harley trunks, but is works and does not look too bad. the weather stripping wears out and it will rattle, but for the price it is ok.

UPDATE:
I ordered the DMY trunk with top rack and backrest from Mutazu Inc..
It arrived Friday via UPS. The trunk had cracks in the top section,
coming from where the Rivet was installed that secures the cable which
limits how far open the lid goes. Whoever had installed the Rivet had
over stressed it cracking the plastic top.

The backrest was also damaged and cracked.

I emailed Mutazu Inc.and included photos of the damaged parts. They
sent me a prepaid UPS label to return the parts and said they would sent
replacements as soon as they received the UPS Tracking Number from
me. It went back out to them on Saturday.

While satisfied with the quality for the price, I was grossly disappointed
in the fact they would ship obviously damaged goods.

I would urge others who do business with them to check over the materials well.

Good advice Concho. At least they seem to cover their mistakes. Guess that is better than some companies.

From past history that weve seen in a lot of cases, even if you do get a good trunk shipped, it will probably crack after a while on the bike.

I have had mine for over two years now. After getting it painted to match I mounted it over the passenger base using the steel plate that came with it for a solid mount. Is also my back rest. I carry stuff in it and on the rack. No problems. I agree it is thinner and not a large as the Harley type, but work for me.
