Stock Harley Mufflers on a 2005 Nomad

I am considering going to quieter pipes...from the Cobra slash cuts to Harley stock mufflers (i just find the Cobras too loud at highway speeds for extended runs). I see some information about this on Gaget's site on how to make these fit. Has anyone else done this...any comments advice etc. would be appreciated. I have possible access to a set of Harley mufflers for $50. Thanks.

There are several members on hear that have mounted HD mufflers, maybe they'll chime in soon.

Mine should be here Monday I post my report once there on and tested I only paid 27 buck shipped for mine. They will fit the V&H duels not sure on the Cobras

Took off my V & H Baggers (mufflers) and put the HD mufflers off of a 2009 Street Glide on the V & H headers. Quiter with just a little rumble. I can ride for long periods now without the ringing in my ears when I get off the bike. Definately worth it in my opinion. Be sure to use anti-seize when you put the new mufflers on. Brackets are easy to make just follow Gadgets information.

So far as I know HD mufflers are 1 and 3/4 inch ID, and V&H and Cobra pipes are 1 and 3/4 inch OD, so these should work with just making up a bracket. In order for me to do that i would need the mufflers in my face.

Put the muffler on the head pipe measure the distance from the mounting holes on the bike and the mounting holes on the muffler cut a piece of flat bar I used 3/8" X 1 1/2" wide because that was what I had drill your holes to match and bolt them up.

I switch mine regularly because the V&H mufflers get irritating at times. I used Gadget's suggestions and it works fine. Nice and mellow. I originally made a temporary flat bracket but one day I will actually make a permanent one.....yea right!

not familiar with this mod.... what's the advantage of putting on MD mufflers over the nomad stock ones?

I do know you have to watch that when you get Harley mufflers that they are both the same! The newer ones the left side is not a true muffler - more of an expansion chamber that lets some exhaust out but not the same as right side! If you look at any newer stock Harley you will notice a color difference between left and right - also if idling the left will sound different than right. And how do I know - I bought a set of a stock 2007 Electraglide off e-bay and the guy stated for sure they were the same ( both mufflers) and they came and after 2 seconds I realized they were not the same! Left one is lighter and when you look inside there is less stuff !

I picked up a pair of 2003 Road King back-slash mufflers last night and temporarily installed them right away to take measurements so I could make brackets today at work. The back-slash match the angle of the hard bags and they sound low and mellow. When I do the finish install I will post a picture or two. The HD mufflers I bought were new take offs and I paid $20 for the pair.

I do know the left and right have different part numbers because they have different dimples to clear the swing arm and belt drive,I think the dimples started in 95 up till then they where all round

Thanks for the replies and advice. Rewindgy is on the right track...thanks to him I did a little more research. Looks like after 2005 the Harley touring exhausts changed to more than left and right dimples for the rear axle. They are also internally different. The set I am looking at is from a 2002 Road Glide. From information I am finding it looks like they should be the same internally.
