From Utah to Maine and back again
I will be leaving soon for a trip out to Maine. One of my bucket list items is to ride all 50 states on a motorcycle and this trip will help me get closer to that goal. In fact, by the end of the trip I'll have motorcycled through 46 states.
If anyone has any suggestions of places to stay or visit, please let me know or email me at: UtahMotorcyclist@gmail.com My planned route, is very adjustable but is as follows: Orem, Mt. Rushmore (two nights), Albert Lia, Milwaukee, Chicago, Edinboro (2 nights), Boonville, Tamworth, Port Jervis, Washington DC, Pittsburgh (3 nights), Terre Haute, Liberty (2 nights), Longmont, Orem http://www.utahmotorcyclist.org/2012...ack-again.html

Be careful. You have to go through Indiana twice and those Hoosiers are idiots.

Hey Jared, have great ride. Unfortunately it appears you will see very little of the beautiful state of Minnesota as your route is on I90. Come back and visit sometime when you can take in the beauty of the Central Lakes region of MN. Ride safe and enjoy.

I gave a couple ideas on your facebook page. You really need to get into Maine, specifically 201 up to Canada to get a good ride. The Montauk lighthouse is cool and there are a lot of other destinations on the Island too, but if you are just clipping states, it's tough to see everything worthwhile.

Looks like a great trip. I suggest that in Wisconsin you swing north around Lake Michigan, cross the Upper Peninsula on route 2, then cross the Mackinaw Bridge and come down through Michigan. Fantastic scenery and great ride. If you haven't seen that area, it is definitely worth the extra day. (If you decide to do that, tell me, and maybe I'll meet you for lunch somewhere along the way.)
Ride safe!!

In all reality, you could spend a month riding that area.

If anyone is going to spend a month riding off 201, they better be riding an adventure/enduro bike. A lot of roads aren't paved and can get rough depending on the time of year. 201 itself is a nice twist road that follows a river at places. Watch out for the moose though...

So turn left at Milwaukee, head north up and over the bridge, spend a night in northern Michigan, and roll on into your relatives place right on time. Trust me....you will not miss riding through Chicago.

Only caution I would offer, is try not to hit Chicago during Morning or afternoon rush hour.
That is the only city I have ever driven in, (not ridden) that makes me uncomfortable. |
