Accessory connection 1500

Hi Guys,

I have some questions regarding wiring on a 1500.

A- Where is the extra accessory connection on a 1500 ? I think there is only 1 and it is under the seat....is that right? If so where under the seat? Am I looking for a white plastic connector? Or ?

B- Once I find this critter do I need to worry about fusing it? I assume it is fused into the junction box and has a 10 amp fuse?

c- I am trying to wire up a cigarette lighter to power my GPS (Garmin). But sometime in the future I want to power some heated gloves (I think 2 amps) with it as well.

I already bookmarked a bunch of power outlet threads but after reviewing them they all applied to 1600's.

Thanks in advance!

Accessory connection 1500

Hi Greg
On the 1500 there are 2 aux connectors under the seat along with 2 ground connectors. You will find the same under the tank towards the front left but you would probably need to pull the tank to get at them. These connectors are fused with a 10amp fuse. These will supply plenty of power for your GPS but not sure of the current draw on heated apparel. :)

keep in mind that this circuit is not switched through the key. It is on all the time (at least on my "02 it is). This can be a problem if you forget to turn off the accessory.

Thanks Badger and welcome to the board! I did install my outlet and yes I leave the GPS on by accident once in awhile....someday I will switch it.

2 pairs.... one under the seat, the other under the tank, both on the same 10amp fuse, so both ON at all times.

The hot lead is white w/ a blue tracer on both and the mated ground is black with a yellow tracer on both.

If you use a device not grounded via a wire to the bike engine/frame, use one of these gounds.

If your power outlet grounds thru it's case and is bolted to a grouned metal part you don't need run another long wire.

For example I have a walley world lighter socket on my windshield, held by one bolt thru the chrome mount, which isn't grounded to the frame, so the ground wire off the lighter unit goes to the gooseneck, and the stock ground wire wasn't used, to save adding a long wire.

I've got the Kuryakin Power Point and we hooked it directly to the battery. Left the GPS plugged in for 2 days and Ruby started with no problem so I figure the draw is not bad enough to drain the battery.
