Jerky slow speed
Finally improved the Voyagers herky jerky
throttle at slow speeds. Was also getting occasional high idle while riding. Sprayed a little WD40 down the throttle cables. Should have done it sooner. Big improvement. My Voyager is a 2012 with 53,000 miles with Ivans tune.

The WD-40 may have cleaned some gunk out of the cables making them work smoother for now, but it is a very poor lubricant. Also it will collect soils like a dirt magnet. So do other liquid cable lubes, but they are also thicker, so still provide lubrication far longer than WD-40 for the same amount of soil.
I suggest that you follow up with some actual cable lube. Even better, remove the cables, clean them with WD-40, mineral spirits, isopropyl alcohol, whatever and dry them. Then lube with a dry graphite. The graphite provides super lubrication and does not attract and hold dirt like liquids do. |
