Me personally, I use the TFI. You might also consider the Kuryakyn "Wild Thing", it's the same thing as the TFI, and is also made by the same folks that make the TFI. It's just been re-branded for Kuryakyn. The TFI /Wild Thing, and the Cobra FI 2000 are probably the easiest two to install and adjust.

As long as you buy the "plug and play" versions of these devices (some still offer a hard-wired model), installation is virtually the same across the board. The Cobra and Dobeck units are the most popular on here. I think the Cobra may be the least expensive, then the Dobeck, and the Dynojet Power Commander III being the most expensive.

I'm on my second Cobra, they work fine and are easily adjusted.

It comes down to choice and either will do the job.

I have the PC3 on my bike and wish I had the cobra. It much easier to use imo.

Plug & play TFI on mine but would have gone Cobra had the price been better. Both units accomplish the same objective, to richen the fuel/air mixture. You won't regret either.

i've got the cobra on my nomad and my v-star. both work great. if it was'nt for the cobra i would have got rid of both bikes. neither ran worth a darn in stock form. best money i spent on both bikes.

fuel processor question? ((update)) #2

I have the Cobra on my '07. There's been a lot of discussion on this and I think the Dobeck TFI might be the better unit. On some bikes , mine, the Cobra does not help the very low rpm lean condition which is what causes the stumbling, clutch in bike dies problem. The Cobra, installed on my bike, has to have the rpm up to 16 to 18 K before it kicks in. In the instructions for the Cobra it is mentioned that pot one works at or above idle depending on the bike. From what I've read on the forum the Dobeck TFI works at idle so is more effective in controling the low rpm issues. Both work very well above idle and there is a marked improvement, on my bike, with the Cobra.

I'll make you a deal, I would like to switch to the Dobeck so I'll sell you my plug-n-play Cobra for say $145 including shipping and I'll use the money plus some to buy a TFI. Let me know if interested.

James -- That's strange as my Cobra makes changes at off idle and gets rid of the stumbling too. I had the same thing you described and I could get rid of it with adjustments.

Anyway, for whatever its worth, I think your offer is a good one and I'd buy the Cobra again.

I run the TFI. Did my research before deciding on it. Got it from a guy who was parting with his drifter and was selling the bolt on stuff. He never got around to installing the TFI. I saved a bunch of $$$. I have yet to hear about a TFI problem. Thats why I was OK with a pre-owned unit. As Mac says, if you do one mod, make it a fuel management system. Its the only mod I have done. So far. The results are worth it! Oh yeah, plug and play is the way to go.

I have the Dobeck TFI, I like it.
I went with the non-plug-n-play mostly because I didn't know the difference but also because I got it for $90.
For what it's worth, I bought the TFI first, then Vance and Hines. I plan on buying Chucksters air intake and coaster plates next when the cash comes around.

Same order my mods went in. The intake mod should be last and fuel processor first.....stock or not.

I have the Cobra FI200R and it was money well spent. I also did the plug and play. Make sure you have an almost empty fuel tank as this will make lifting and keeping up and out of the way much easier. Cobra or Doebeck are both top of the line. Just depends on which you can get the best deal.

Good decision. You couldn't have gone wrong with either. Go with the factory settings for a while and see how you like it. Mine is still set at factory and I've had mine over a year.
