Wadda Ya Think??

Since the weather here in Cincy has been ugly for the most part I decided to use my down time fabricating some in-expensive add-on's for the Nomad.

1st, My Hand Deflectors:

2nd, My version of Engine Guard Chaps:

The entire project cost around 30 bucks including the aluminum strips, Plexiglas, nuts n bolts.
I used the radiator shroud bolts to secure them.
I painted the area on the strips near the shroud and polished the areas near the plexiglass...
After I finished I do see room for improvement on the chaps but for the most part I rode the other day and my feet did not get cold, in fact they were getting a bit warm in the boot so it seems it is serving it's purpose.
So wadda ya think???

Nice mod. Those should help extend your riding season quite a bit.

Oh Yea, in fact it has let up outside (rain) but it is about 34 degrees...I am going to feed the pets and get dressed and go riding until the snow comes...
I have heated gloves too :) that was the best purchase I ever made...
Thanks Rick

I like the crash bar chaps. What are the improvements you refer to?

Coot,
Currently I am using 1/2" x 1/8" aluminum.
I want to go up about 3/4" x 1/8".
When riding they tend to "wiggle" a bit.
I don't think it will hurt in their current state but I want to make them a bit stronger.
So I think that with the beefier strips I will get less wiggle.
Thanks

I couldn't find a good picture of my purchased hand guards, but if you look close, they are in this picture.

They go a lot further out than you made yours, and I with they went an inch further still. You may find that you would get better wind protection if you re-did yours to extend further.

Yours cost a lot less :)

Great mods. The hand deflectors make a huge difference.

Two things....three actually.....one, the engine guard mods are cool....I like! Two, Dan IS nuts.... .....and three, he is right.....a little farther away from the hand grips and the deflectors will actually give you better protection. Think of a wind tunnel. The wind hits them and is deflected over or under. Your hands will have a bigger "pocket" of quiet air further back. Mine are in line with my windshield (straight across), and I found that to work the best! Looking good though... !

Anyone who can make what you did for only $30.00, sure has my vote. Good job, Clayton!

That looks good. ;)

I did think the same about making the hand deflectors a little longer so they extended out toward the end of the grips a bit more... but hey... great job.

Wadda Ya Think??

Actually I can move them towards the rear more giving them the extended feel "so to speak"
I'm always tinkering around and when I get some more plexiglass I might have to make them a bit longer...maybe even do some crazy design.
This is my 2nd set I have made the 1st set was more "retro" looking.
I was riding today and you guys are right I can still feel the wind a bit on the hands.
Once I re-do I will post some pic's.
Thanks Guys.

Mine go almost to the end of the grips, I wish that they went all the way to the end. I don't know what the "recipe" is, but some people know how to heat it up and bend and curve it too.

Good luck.
