straight pipes

Im so used to my old loud pioes but dont have money to buy pipes for my new vaquero. I was wandering how bad would it be if i ran my bike with just straight pipes. Take off the slip ons

I tried it once for kicks with no slipons, and with gutted pipes (which would act roughly equivalent to straight pipes). With nothing at all it was awful - not only painfully loud (in a bad way) but popped and backfired like crazy...I mean unrideable. The straight pipes were a little better but not much, the decel popping was still unbearable, sounded like a jalopy at the redneck Saturday night dirt races.

Straight pipes on a Vaq will be a project. Right side not too bad but u'll have to have a pipe fabricated to run over to the left side. Time and some $$$ spent, wait and save ur pennies for a good exhaust system.

Straight pipes, yeah great idea, we don't have enough problem with the general public now.
Make all the noise possible and piss off more of them

It just never ceases to amaze me Bob, why so many people want to make obnoxious window rattling noise.
Is it a need for attention, a total disregard for others rights, the myth that loud pipes save lives or what?
I will never understand it , but will never give up my soapbox either.

I like a good sounding pipe but unbaffled straight pipes neither sound good or
belong on public roads.heck most racetracks don't allow excessively loud pipes
these days as the neighbor complaints about noise have closed more then one
track down.

Same... I bought a bike equipped with a stereo, and we don't even switch that on.

We've ridden once in a group through a crowded city center - behind a guy wearing a muscle shirt playing some random loud country & western music over his Voyager speakers & blipping his throttle unnecessarily... I was 3 bikes behind him & avoided making eye contact with anyone. It won't happen again.

Agreed, just screwing with you. I owned a bike with pipes far too loud. Wasn't civil even leaving my neighborhood. Never again.

I have heard your bike Gerry, it sounds about as loud as a sewing machine

Never could figure out a saying my grandmother used to say, a stitch in time saves nine. Does that mean 9 sewing machine quiet bikes travelling together will be saved at the intersection because they could actually hear the horn beeping of the runaway bus?
