Low Voltage and a Bad Battery

A few of my observations recently,

So I am riding down the road and bike shuts down like someone turned off key.
I coast to a safe spot, turn key off and then back on and bike fires right up and I ride some more then again same thing happens.

So I am thinking must be something electrical, ignition switch, kickstand switch, etc....
first thing I test battery voltage, it is 12.5 so that seems good.
However, my odometer has been resetting when starting, and I know that is the first sign of a battery going bad.
So, I decide to install new battery, and sure enuff, all is now good, knock on wood!

These bikes need the 12.5 volts or the ignition and possibly the fuel pump can work properly. So I am thinking that my battery was going from good to bad as I was riding, when voltage drop to 11 bike would shut off, then go back 12.5 and run fine. In other words an intermittent problem with a 3 year old battery.
Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
