Harley batwing checklist

-inner fairing (on the way)
-outer fairing (on the way)
-(2) trim pieces
-bolts (inner to outer and windshield)
-Chucksters brackets (on the way)
-windshield (on the way)
-small gauge block off plate (I already have 3 gauges)
-headlight
-headlight mounting assembly
-materials for wiring harness
-something to fill large (speedo/tach) holes

What am I missing, if anything?

The harley tach won't work, it is a single fire coil signal, you need a dual fire signal and a 9+ pole stator.

Well, that sucks. Seemed like a good way to get those holes filled nicely and get a tach at the same time. Thanks although I didn't understand a thing you said after "The harley tach won't work".

I got my tach off e-bay
you just have to look for one that says twin fire or made to fit Vulcan with twin fire ignition

I'll look for one after I get my inner fairing. I'll have to measure the hole then look for one that looks right.

yes this all true. When "strobe"did mine {his at the time} he had that same issue I think. He found a dual fire and it was all good. No biggie really. It sure is nice riding by a tach again, I rarely look at the speed'o The GPS for KMH/MPH and the tach.

I'll just get covers to fill in the holes this summer and look for a tach to install next winter. Wiring for the tach is just power/ground/coil, right? Might as well add the wiring to the mix now while I'm at it.

So other than the tach issue, what my list complete? Or am I missing things? (I have a stereo.)

Yup. That's why I posted the list. I know there are some on here who have installed the HD batwing so I'm hoping they look at the list and chime in. If I miss something, so be it. One of the reasons I decided to go batwing was for the relative simplicity and the fact that it's an already proven deal.

wouldn't a Reckless end up being cheaper and a whole lot less hassle?

You'd think so, but he has his mind made up. Actually, I believe he sold his Nomad headlight parts to fund his fixed fairing project and a Harley Batwing has a built-in headlight assembly, where a Reckless just sits above the stock headlight assembly.

I don't know if it would be any cheaper but it would definitely be easier.

Yup. I like the look of the HD fairing better especially since I'll be adding gauges. Besides, aftermarket parts are MUCH more readily available for the HD.

I think my Nomad is allergic to Harley Davidson parts.

Personally, I think the Nomad looks better with a stock windshield. A fairing looks out of place on one.
