AirHawk & Sheep Skin
I just finished a little project and thought you all may want to see what I did.
I hand-stitched a piece of sheepskin to the outer cover on an AirHawk cushion. Then I trimmed the sheepskin so it was just a bit larger than the AirHawk. I inserted the AirHawk cushion, zipped it up, and I think I'm gonna like it. I haven't tried it out yet because the roads out of town are still ice covered. Just sitting on it seems to be comfortable. I just have a minimum amount of air in the cushion so it doesn't sit up too high. New idea on an old problem. But, that looks more like wolf skin than sheep skin. That should make a certain part of the anatomy happy.

I use an Air Hawk and it works pretty good, never thought about combining two types of cushions. I also like the fact that you went up the gas tank for testicle support and protection.
Did you use some sort of anti-skid material on the bottom? I really like the look, now you need a few raccoon tails. Where did you find a skin that color, looks really good? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Nice enough to go bare-butt on!! (Please, no picture!) ;) ;)
Seriously, nice job! I like your lowers too, Dave. They your design? Thinking of adding them myself, eventually. |

My sheepskin is the one you can get at Ikea (only been there once spell?) so it's just a little bigger than my pad. I didn't know whether to go contact cement, velcro, or now that you mention it stitch it to the cover already on the gel pad. |

Send to me. I'll test it.
It's warm enough to ride here in Florida.

Looks like you got the idea from our new Russian member...or at least the fur. Looks great! If my wife sees that, looks like a new mod is in the works. Great addition to a beauty of a bike. Like your "Nomad" on the front fender.

I like the sheepskin Dave. But the tassels are a little on the girly side ;)

Thanks for your comments, even the "girly one" TC. There's nothing girly about me, and I like the long fringed levers and tassels on the mud flaps on my Nomad. TC, you have a nice bike, but I don't mind if it doesn't have tassels, and wouldn't say so if I did. To each his own. I'm cool with it. And it is neat that women occasionally come up and ask me about it.
The fur is genuine sheep skin. I bought two full pelts about 15 years ago. They have been laying around our house, usually in the winter to rest our bare feet on. They do sort of look like wolf skin, but this time the sheep was wearing it. I tacked the skin to the AirHawk cover using strong thread and an upholstry needle. I took the air bladder out of the cover before I started sewing so I wouldn't pierce it by mistake. I tacked the skin to the cover about 9 different places. It was too hard on the ol' arthritic fingers... or else I would have sewed it continous around the edge. The bottom of the AirHawk cover is non-slip, so it appears it won't slide around too much. There are probably better ways to attach the skin, but that was the most handy to me at the time. It would have been nice to have an upholstry sewing machine. The lowers I bought on Ebay from "Chuckster". I've seen some of his remarks on this forum, so he may be a member. He makes a great product. They fit perfect and once I lowered the windshield all the way down, I have not experienced buffeting at all! BnG
