As one who is mechanically inept I am proud to report a successful mufflerectomy. After reading all the posts about how thrilled everyone was with the removal of the silencers, with fear and trepidation I decided to go for it. With BD's list of needed supplies I made the trip to Lowes and then fired up my 29 dollar drill. Everything worked just like it was supposed to except for what seemed an awful lot of tugging pulling and twisting to actually get it out. Love the result. Love the sound.

I am amazed at how helpful everyone is on these sites. Thanks everyone and especially BD. Maybe next I'll actually tackle an oil change. :)

BD got the idea to look into it after I made mention months before about drilling holes around the pipe you drilled out like alot of people did with the last bike I had. He probably won't admit it though. Plant a seed and it grows.

Cool! If you've never done it yourself then instead of the plug under the engine drain it out of the oil pickup screen plug (big plug on the side of the crankcase just about behind the kickstand bolt) and remove and clean out that screen.

It'll be like a treasure hunt, because the dealer never cleans these, and you can't imagine what people have found trapped in those screens.

I've thought about performing a bafflectomy, but I didn't like the way my C50T sounded debaffled, I bought it that way and a little later bought a set of stock take-offs from eBay. I've never heard a 1600 Nomad debaffled, though.

I got a set of stock take-offs from a buddy of mine, took those and did the bafflectomy, and gutted the goat belly. Then switched the systems out(I keep my set just in case I may need them again), and when I fired it off, it was pretty mellow to me ::). It has a little more rumble to it, but wasn't the sound I was looking for. I went ahead and got a set of V&H's baggar duals, now that was the sound I was looking for.

A very deep rumble, but no loud cracking.

Now that you have tackled that project and succeeded, don't be afraid to try something else, installing a light bar perhaps.
