Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

I have a question for someone who may know
about VIN #'s.

I bought My 2004 Nomad in June 2004, well
after four years my wife decides she wants
a Nomad, so we purchase a 2004 Nomad on
Ebay at Franklin, TN. When I purchased Insurance
for my wife's Nomad the Insurance Co. sent
the proof of Insurance card with both Nomad's
VIN #'s on it. The VIN #'S were nearly identical.

My Nomad VIN # = JKBVNAL150A027699
My Wife's VIN # = JKBVNAL180A027700

Now, Does that mean the Nomad's are sister bikes
or does the 5 & 8 make them distant cousins?

I would say they are sister bikes, as the last 6 digits are only one digit apart. I think the 5 and 8 are regional codes, depending on where the bike was destined for, requiring different pollution controls or light wiring etc.

I'd venture the VIN# listed aren't correct. Neither show up on the VIN Decoder site or on the Kaw Warranty site. You should verify them and have them corrected. Could be a problem if you ever file a claim and the vehicle VIN covered in the policy doesn't match the damage claim.

I didn't record VIN #'S on posting as they really are. The 5, 8, and the last four digits are actual. After the post I did a VIN check and apparently they were Manufactured as sister's. Like TC said what are the chances of purchasing the Nomads almost four years apart and them being sisters. The site where I checked the VIN # explained what each letter and Number represented. The last 6 digits were the sequence in which the Nomads were manfactured.
I run the VIN # on the Kawasaki sight and it said the Nomad has the Good Times protection plan until 6/16/2010. I wonder if it's still good with the second owner (being me)???

9th digit is merely a check digit that is determined by an equation..so as others have said...looks like they came of the line side by side...how cool is that!!
