I purchased the Russell Day-Long seat for my Nomad, and I have now put about 1200 miles on it. When I first put it on the bike, I have to say that I was not overly impressed. There is a definite change in the seating position, which took some time to get used to.
This past weekend, I took a four day trip to Virginia. I was riding 5 to 6 hours each day, and I can honestly say that I had no pain or numbness in my backside. At the end of the day, my riding buddies were complaining about sitting down, and I realized that, yes, the promises of the Day-Long seat are true.
The real difference in the seat is that it has a "pocket" that you sit in, with support all around the outside of the seat. Because of that, you don't have the pressure points on the bones in your rear that is common with most seats.
I had the Mustang seat on my last bike, and this is a BIG improvement.
My wife also says that she notices a significant improvement with the passenger seat, as well.
These seats are expensive, but if you ride a lot and aren't happy with your current seat, they are worth it.

I'm interested, but I just can't give up my stock seat for the 2-3 week turn around for the remake. I suppose I could buy a used seat and send that but that'll add additional 100.00 or so to the final cost.

I have loved mine since the 1st mile. And between the russell and raising the passenger boards and inch, my wife rides comfortably and her legs no longer fall asleep.

I fully agree Deacon. I've had mine for a couple of years now. I won't leave home without it.

Wife and I did 9000+ miles in 5 weeks last year with a Day-Long. Other things got sore, but neither of us ever had a problem with the seat. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Just got my day long seat a week or so ago. Have only had a total of maybe 10 miles on the seat so I have no real opinion. The seating position is definitely going to take some getting used to. Cant wait to get some miles on it!

Nubbs,
I found that there was definitely a break in period involved, while others have been happy from initial install.
Give it some time. You will come to love it.

Depending on what material you use (vinyl, leather) and options, somewhere between $480.00 and $745.00 not including the seat pan.

Just curious, how exactly does the seat change your riding position?

I bought mine from Caper a couple of years ago. Sent him my modified stock seats and he sent me the daylong seats, backrest, and cover. Caper's legs are a little longer than mine so the wings keep me from putting both feet down flat unless I slide forward a little. It didn't take long to get used to it. I haven't ridden since October so I forgot how comfortable the seats are. Darlene and I have ridden over 630 miles in a day with no butt or back problems. Just tired.

Well you could just move to Canada and then you would have lots of non-riding time to have your seat remade. Woke up this morning to 6" of the white stuff :ohno:

The seat has a "pocket" that you sit in, which is different from a typical seat that you just sit on. It is described as having wings out on the sides, although I think that is somewhat of an exaggeration. You really notice it more with your stopping position than the riding position. Because of the way the seat is constructed, you can't put your legs down straight from the riding position. Instead, you have to slide forward slightly, out of the seat pocket, to put your feet on the ground. I do not find it that troublesome any more. Just something to get accustomed to.

Send them your seat in the off season when your not riding as much.

I had thought that they cost around $900- $1000.00 The prices you said are not all that bad for a good aftermarket seat. Especially the way everyone that has tried them loves them.

I dropped $1100. Both seats. Leather. Drivers backrest. Rain cover. And I paid for the extra support for the full figured rider.

Is that euphemisms for fat-ass?

It's been a while, but I think I paid right around a $1000. That included the driver and passenger seat (vinyl), driver backrest, rain cover, and a passenger pouch that snaps to the backrest.
At the same time that I added the seat, I also added a Scootworks trunk and passenger backrest. I mention that because the combination of the two doesn't give my wife a lot of room between the two backrests. I ended up adding a small block behind the front backrest mount to push it forward a couple of inches. Made a big difference for her. On the plus side, she often sleeps on the back, and the close fit means she can't accidently fall off.

My current bike is too old to warrant installing one on now, but on the next bike I think I'll get it right away so I'll be able to enjoy it longer.

that's why I bought an air hawk steve. I ain't spending 1100 bucks on a bike who's resale value is about 6500. Next ride will have the best seat from the get!
