Oh man, cry me a river. Being self employed has it's benefits and cons as well. You can set your hours and you can claim more deductions that I can. I know someone who wrote off part of his motorcycle as a business expense. Know another person that writes off parts of his vacations. All he has to do is one business item on a trip and there she is.

For you self-employed folks - it's compensation for tolerating your employer's bullshit for another year.

Bob - are you going to buy a trailer or rent one? I am thinking I might try that. If not, I will take a week to get there and a week to get home and see some roads less traveled.

Bill- I already have a good 5'x9' flat bed trailer with a tailgate ramp and wheel chock installed.i use it mostly to haul my atv around.

Thumbs Up

The aftermath of the Red Lodge trip had an interesting development. One needs to be very careful about spending unsupervised time with Idaho and Wanderer. As everyone knows both of them spend a lot of time in the saddle doing long distances.

Explaining to me how to do the rides finally started to make sense at Red Lodge. Following their advice I completed my first Saddle Sore 1000 ride yesterday and early this morning. It took me 21 hours verses the rough estimate of 18 hours but I learned a lot. The first half of the ride I did everything by the numbers and was pretty much on schedule. The second half is where I got sloppy and did not pay attention to the time management as closely during my stops.

One thing to note I got way too tired toward the end. After thinking about it I had not been eating a snack at every stop after lunch like I was in the morning. Taking the time to get a light snack and plenty of liquid shortly thereafter I was okay. I didn't feel hungry so had not been eating a small snack, a very big mistake the same as not getting enough water. I should have realized it sooner because the stops were taking longer each time, as I said I got sloppy. Now that I know how easy it is to get suckered into time creep for the lack of a better term it is something to work on.

I did not get nearly as tired or worn out during the SS1000 like I do during some of the touring. Of course Interstate speeds do keep you more focused. I tuned the radio to music stations and except for a couple of them most were annoying. I think it helped keep me more awake rather than listening to music I would have enjoyed.

Now of course I am stuck planning my future trips with longer initial distances allowing more time to enjoy the scenery after I arrive. I no longer have the excuse it is too far in one day. Overall the SS1000 wasn't a bad run, I could get back on the bike and do some riding today without cringing if I was so inclined. My next run will probably be a Bun Burner 1500 or maybe a SS1000 and the BB1500 combined. I need to get some practice in before I would attempt a BB1500 Gold.

While I have kidded both Idaho and Wanderer in the beginning of the post their advice and knowledge were a huge benefit. I have run into a couple of other LD riders who have said the same things, it only gets easier now that I have done it once. My actual moving time was right on the money. I need to work on my stop times and make them more efficient.

Almost forgot, the CCT was extremely smooth all day long. I didn't realize the strength of the headwind between Albuquerque and Hatch NM and had to make an extra stop for gas. Other riders were telling me it was terrible and I never had a clue. For anyone interested here is my Spotwalla map link. https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php...c57bb61c7b9878
